It currently has a 216 (Crazy Canadian Truck), a grany low 4 speed and a 4.57 rear. I want to change to a 4.10 rear (if I can find one) but I am also interested in the T5 5speed OD tranny. Will it bolt to the 216? which one would be the best all-round driver?
I'll have to change the drive shaft anyway, so would it be better to just change the short forward one to fully open and get a new bearing or could I get away with a longer large diameter one-piece drive shaft? Would I still have shaft balance and whipping problems with say a 3" or 3 1/2" shaft?
Thanks
Current fleet (subject to change w/o notice) \'49 GMC 3/4-Ton , 60 Austin Healey Frog-eye Sprite (some assembly required), 2011 Dodge Avenger, 2015 Jeep Cherokee. No, they don't all run. My other ride is a (B737)no, (B767)no, A320.... Update... was Embraer E190, now Boeing B787. Knowledge is a wonderful thing, but ignorance means you don't know you can't do something.

Look for an NV4500 instead. It will require modifying the bellhousing for the 5.125" pilot diameter. Then go with a fully open driveline.

I too had the 4:57 and I changed it out to a 4:10 from a 72 4x4 that I picked up at a local salvage yard and with 235x85x16 tires I can cruise at 65 mph @ 2500 rpms. Has really chaged the character of my truck for the better and I would highly reccomend this conversion.
