For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 90 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 90 | I have a friend that thinks he is the last person in the country (USA) still making his livelyhood out of an Advanced Design panel truck. He is a mechanic and does mobile repairs and firmly believes that there isn't another person in the country still working out of one of these panels.
I say there is. Anybody on tis list using your panel as a regular work truck? | | | | | Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 28 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 28 | There is a sign painter in town that has a slammed pale yellow one he works out of everyday. I regularly see him smiling and hauling butt.(along with a few cans of paint) | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | how about this one or maybe this one or even this one always gotta be careful about "firm beliefs" I used a 57 panel in my biz for about 15 years, until the frame got too rotten ... hope to have another 57 finished up onea these years Bill | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 125 Member | | Member Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 125 | there is a pic of a '51 panel on the front cover of the Golden State Parts catalog (Golden State Parts, Carson City, Nevada...'47-'72 Chev./GMC truck parts) Said to be used daily by a bakery.

I think he sold both of them in 88 though. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2004 Posts: 219 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2004 Posts: 219 | I drive my truck on a daily basis. I haul various things with it. I will be using it to haul the latest addition to my collection. A 1957 Chris Craft Barracuda. It gets driven hard. You may want to forward this thread to your friend. There's still alot of old Panels performing their daily "business". It is much more user friendly than my modern truck.

I see it often when I drive through that community.
There was a pin-striper working out of one in Oregon until recently. I saw his truck for sale on eBay so I assume he isn't using it any more.

Once I get the brakes upgraded to power drums, get the wiring replaced and get a new receiver hitch on it, I'll be towing my open race car trailer somewhat regularly.
And along the way, I'll keep upgrading it.
Your buddy is pretty cool for working out of his truck, but the only one in the country? Hardly. In fact, the guy I bought my Suburban from was an on-sight equipment mechanic, and had a Snap-on tool chest in the back, tack welded to the metal floor just inside the door opening. And yeah, he used it every day.

Let your friend down easy (if he is the kind of guy that understands facts). He should be congratulated for being proud about running a working A-D panel truck.
Any chance he or you will post pictures?

He seemed happy to hear there were other panels still in use as work trucks. I'll get some pics. His truck has been in continuous use by him for 30-35 years and it has a working truck patina right down to seeing the cross hatch of layers in the bed wood from years of sliding stuff in and out of it. | | |
