I finished my 51 today. Started it in late June or early July. It was a cab off restoration about seven years ago, I did a cab on restoration this time. It came out pretty good for a 61 year old kid. :p Just need to ground one taillight, finish wiring the headlights to make them look better, replace one headlight, and I'm done. Everything on the truck works, all gauges, lights, and the 12 volt radio with a 12v motorcycle battery hid in the corner. Nothing left but to drive it. Thanks to all on here for helping me when I had a problem. Probably will have a few tweeks to correct but thats normal. Again, thanks.

Thanks for the nice comments. I use to build streetrods several years ago. Had a heart attack and six bypasses and that kind of put an end to my foolishness. Been doing this kind of hobby since the mid-60's and still have alot to learn.

Checked out yor pix. Great looking truck! Got a question. I saw where you put in the radio speakers. Just wondering how well can you hear them behind the seat like that? I was toying with the idea of puting speakers behind the seat, but I wasn't sure if I could hear them.

Pablos49, I have three speakers in the truck, one in the grille and two behind the seat. If I tune out the one in the grille, I can hear the other two okay. They work good if you balance and fad them. Only problem with going to a motorcycle battery is that the radio has a light that stays on all the time and it will drain the battery in about 3 days. Then have to charge again. To remedy that, I put in a shut off button. Only problem there is that I lose all my presets, clock, balance and fad, etc. Any suggestions to fix this problem.

Great looking truck, but are you sure it's done? Couldn't you use more power? More foam in those seats? Fix that problem with the wiring?

Go to radio shack and buy a loose 9 volt batterey connector. Wire that in to the constant 12v side and ground of the radio. Just before disconecting the batterey, plug in a 9v. Once your 12v batterey is charged, disconnect the 9v. It's not going to keep for a long time but it should keep it for a couple hours.

In efforts to save money, get a rechargeable 9v

Another way to do this (if on a full 12v system) is through the cig lighter if you have one. Just need a loose cig adapter with no internal electronics and a 9v batterey end.

You might check Harbor Freight for one of their small solar chargers if your truck is parked outside at all.
Otherwise you might consider the Battery Tender.
It not only charges the battery but keeps it in good condition.
Aside from all that - Excellent job on the truck!
