 52 days. I've been arguing with my dear truck for 52 days about this project that was called a disc conversion for the front brakes. I've gone through ball joints, tie rods, and just about everything else that is involved with these particular areas. I ordered brand new lines and conversion kits from LMC. And today, my 53rd day, I'm finally putting the wheels back on to get her on the road. Yea, right? NOT!!! This kit is supposed to be able to convert a completely stock truck to disc. If this is the case, then why, Why, WHY does the flippin' brake caliper mash against the flippin' wheel rim when I bolt them on???????????   For the love of God and everything that is holy, please, someone out there tell me that I just did a bonehead thing and then tell me the fix!!! I called LMC prepared to completely and totally devour someone, and their flippin' tech service is only available on weekdays.....

Yeah man. I was looking on that site and the only thing that I saw that might help was the metal removal around the riveted areas on the rims. Something about that seems a bit scary to me though, you know?

If you're running disc brakes, you have to have the newer style steel wheels. They will clear the calipers. Old original style won't.

Are you serious?? I can't believe that this stupid catalog told me everything else that I needed to upgrade the brakes, but neglected to mention that I needed different rims. Wow. That is very frustrating...

Some wheels will clear, some won't. The wheels on my buddy's 69 wouldn't fit, but the ones from my 64 would clear(barely). Both sets of wheels looked the same, same sze & width, until you turned them around & they had a slight difference in the riveted area. So, if you want to keep stock wheels look around the boneyard like RR said. Also 4x4 C10 wheels up to 87 fit & give you more width. Brian

My disc brake conversion on my 65 was courtesy of OEM parts. I swapped in spindles from an 84 C10. Converted the truck to 5 hole wheels. A true bolt in project. I had to change the ball joints, brake hoses and tie rod ends. All OE parts. Sorry yours was not as easy.

Measure your spacing: both back space and distance from hub center to outside of caliper. Take that measurement with you to the junkyard and find a set of rims that work. The problem may lie with the shape of the inner part of the rim and the way it comes down from the bead. Other rims of this vintage may not have as deep of a droop.

I'm sure I saw it mentioned on one of the conversion ads that depending on which wheels you have, you might need to use 1/8 inch spacers, which they offered for sale. Would that help you?

Dearth,
Too bad you don't live closer. I've got a set of regular steel wheels that worked perfect on my Mustang II front end that I'd give you.

Well fellas, I think that it just has to do with the kit that I got. I went to a few different junk yards, picked up 5 different rims that I suspected might fit, and ALL of them rub. Long story short, I've been in touch with LMC for a caliper exchange -- apparently they have a thinner set of calipers that can work with that kit... Thanks a lot for the other helps! On the flip side, there may be something good coming out of this -- I started looking for new rims that might work and I found some that would look GREAT with the whole theme that I have planned... grin
