My proplem is this, the steel is still a little pitted. Is there a thick primer that I can spray on these to fill in some of the pits? Or any other ideas?

You can't tell the pits are there unless you're on your knees next to the wheel. Also, if the sandblaster wasn't careful the wheels could be warped now. It would be wise to check the run-out before putting any more money or effort into them.
