interesting thread... lots of good info... usually, if you fill the rad completely to the top with cold water, it will blow water out until it gets to the "happy" level, then stop.... but it shouldnt be overheating (duh).

Another quality post.

hey i hope this helps,1 flex fans will kill a small block with headers or hard on ones with manifolds, heat rapping headers can decrease you under hood temp thus decreaseing eng temp ,especialy when you are idleing with a flex or clutch fan,the clutch fan will help but the way to go is a black max elec thermo controled fan, easy modification, wiring is cake. if your run a low temp t stat or non ,the coolant can flow to fast and not stay in rad long enough to exchange enough heat thus builsding slowly,,3 50/50 no more no less, otherwise you lower your boiling point,4 a high presure cap and not letting the steam vent when needed increases engine temp,5 i saw sombody with a very good point ,the water pump, the have some that flow reverse,or if you have modified your belt system ,some serp systems require a reverse water pump <the coolant flows the same way just the pump turns oposite to do it,

if i had to bet i would say your average engine temop on a warm to hot day above 85 or so is 200 -210 normally,if you rap headers it will decrease by 4-8 degrees at min,and elect fan like a blackmax is the best for slow speed operation or hot weather ,it simply moves more air,and does it when it needs not as trafic allows these 2 things should solve you temp issue,if you are unsure and think it maybe an internal engine problem like a head gasket or so on a cheap easy way to check is ,go to napa and for 20.00 buy a block tester ,it goes in the rad and sniffs for unburnt fuel, most head gaskets fail at sealing ring<the most presure, most heat area, and the coolant port is the closest point of presure release,if i can help in anyway let me know shayne MPCR
