While driving home tonight in my wife's 2000 explorer I ran over an object in the road that put a nice little cut in the lower corner of the fuel tank.I am a welder by profession but looking for an eazy solution to the problem.I was wondering about using J-B Weld, any body have good sucess with this sort of problem? | | | | | Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 275 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 275 | I patched a hole in my gas take using a 2 part compound. I don't know the name of it but it's like putty that came in a round tube. Cut off how much you need and mixing in your hands and stick it on. I fixed that hole about 7 years ago and it still holds gas.

You then apply an epoxy over that for the permanent fix. I would go to a parts house and see what's available, Scott | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 125 Member | | Member Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 125 | Several years ago I hit hard on the oilpan in my '68 Corvette when going over a speed bump coming out of a casino in Reno, NV. It was late afternoon on a Sunday and the closest garage that was open used J-B weld to plug the hole (about the size of my little finger). I drove the car 200 miles to home and it never leaked another drop. Of course I had a new pan put on the next day but it proved to me the value of J-B weld. It sure should seal a gas tank leak.

Just slather it right on the gas as it leaks out the hole. We use it in the bush all the time. Quick, easy and permanent. 1951 3800 Be the change you want to see. -hotshoe
