Hello from Arizona, I'm new here but not a new "old chevy truck owner". I've owned my '65 suburban since valentines day 1969. For 25 years it was my daily driver,work truck, camper and party wagon. In the last ten years i've only driven it about 100 miles, and it has been parked under pine trees for the last 5 years with no battery or radiator.The tires were sinking into the dirt. I may be moving in the near future and figured i should get the "old brown bomber"running so i could move it or sell it as i need some extra funds. It only took priming the carb to start it.It took a day to clear out the pack rat nests and patch the chewed wiring. I went for a short drive and fell back in love with this truck, and will probably be keeping it now, but am realizing that i have forgot much of what i learned about this truck when it was my daily driver. I repainted and restored it 1989 and knew the shop manual almost by heart. sorry about the length of this post to ask a simple question.

I seem to recall that when i had the headlights on the front parking lights would also be on. this is not the case now. the parking lights only come on when the headlight switch is in the parklight position,ie pulled part way out. I didn't have to do any repair work on the front lights harness so i am confused as to what the proper combo of lights is and am thinking that my headlight switch has gone bad. can anyone tell me if the parklights on their 64-66's come on with the headlights?

Jerry, i'm not aware of any vehicle in the '60's that had the parking lights on when the headlights were on. The light switches that i remember were 2-stage. you pulled them out once and the parking lights came on. You pulled them out all the way and the headlights came on, but the parking lights went off. That's the way i remember my '63, '67 and '72.

Jerry, My 63 K-10 the parking lights go out when the headlights come on. Keep the ol burbon I bet you would miss her when shes gone.

On my '62 Chevy the headlights go on in both the parklight and headlight positions. A new switch didn't make any difference. But BEFORE this started,my parklights went off when the headlights were turned on.

thanks for the answers everyone. for some reason i was thinking that headlights and park(running)lights together were necessary to be legal.

My park lights stay on with the headlights on my 63. may have been wired that way by the previous owner...

My parking lights also don't light up with the headlights on. Signals work ok. Thought I had a wiring problem but I guess not.

It is common to not have park and headlamps on at the same time. Most of the old stuff was that way, even as resent at 1970 on some makes.
