For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 627 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 627 | My insurance company says they can't insure my truck as a motor vehicle since it is in pieces and they can't cover the pieces as property on my homeowner's policy. I'm flabbergasted and can't believe all of us are at risk of a total loss like that.
Are all of you others also playing Russian roulette or can someone here please lead me to obtain coverage?
Thanks.

I am not sure any ins would cover parts of vehicle,, just seems like it might not be pratical,, some one may chime in later that can add something to it.. Seriously, automobile insurance companies usually won't honor a vehicle that is not road-worthy for an extended period of time. However, I don't see why your home owners insurance won't cover a loss that is related to theft of your personal property from your yard or garage. Some would say that just leaving it out in a vacant lot for the buzzards would not constitute proper care and guardianship. In other words, a situation created by a property owner as a deliberate invitation for somone to steal something for the intent purpose of recompensation and replacement. I'd talk with my homeowners insurance representitive again if I were you and tell them that the parts are as valuable to you as any of your other personal possessions. Good luck and keep us informed.

Anything under your roof is covered for full value as long as you have reciepts. Its not an auto untill it is complete. | | | | | | Anonymous Unregistered | | Anonymous Unregistered | maybe because it is apart it should be considered as parts. If an automotive shop burned and replacement parts were lost I imagine they would be covered.Try to list them as replacement parts and not an automobile,it's probably worth alot more that way too. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 1,300 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 1,300 | I agree. Call your agent and call it a "collection of antique parts" List the big items to the point they would cover items like frame, suspension and other items like that. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 990 Member | | Member Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 990 | I don't have insurance on my 72 in the driveway, and wouldn't get it. Allstate insures it against theft @ $6000 value for $15.00 a year. I only ask for theft protection because it dosen't run & hasn't for a while [altho it did when parked ] Try Allstate if you haven't, they seem reasonable. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 | I am in Canada but one of our major classic car insurance people told me that they would cover my project before it is complete, as soon as I thought that I had enough into it, to make it worthwhile. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 1,158 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 1,158 | It seems like Hagerty will cover a vehicle undergoing an "Active" restoration.
