I have heard of people using many things to unstick engines. Diesel, ATF, Marvel Mystery Oil, PB Blaster, Kroil, ect. WD40 is probably the worst penetrant on the market. Try PB Blaster or Kroil and be patient and let it do its magic.

Also, do a search here on the 'bolt. This subject has been covered many times.

I used diesel for a while and then used a random penetrating oil that was probably 15 years old.

Good Lcuk.

Why are you not taking it apart? You would want to go thru it anyway, would you not? Be carfull and make notes as to where and what side shims are placed on the rod caps along with the mains. There is a lot of education awaiting you inside of that motor, I asure you.

If you don't care about saving the pistons (if they're stuck anyway, it sounds like you need a re-bore), just destroy them. Seriously. Take a steel drift/punch, and whack the snot out of the dome, cracking/punching holes in it. Knock the area around the piston pin out, remove the rod, then crack the rest of it. Remove it from the bore in pieces.
Just be careful not to punch anything through the cylinder.

take the head off clean the cylinder walls above the piston, soak the motor for one week, get a round piece of wood that fits the bore well and hit each piston 2x with a slug hammer. i got my 250 working last weekend. you have nothing to lose.

Pushrod, everybody's right... Look at the recent post: 54 almost ready to roll, and you'll see some info on getting one loose. Good luck!

This came up at an antique engine site. One mechanic said she freed up a two lunger marine engine by pouring Coca Cola in the spark plug holes. She kept the cylinders full for a week or two by pouring in a little every time she passed by.
Then she put a breaker bar on the crankshaft nut and it broke free.
I think she was Canadian, or maybe from Texas, I'm not sure.

I tried for weeks to break my engine loose before giving up hope and breaking it open. The bottom end looked fine, but the pistons were rusted to the cylinder walls. Once I realized it was gonna cost me the same to rebuild the 216 or build a new 261, I went with the 261. Since then I've seen many good looking re-built motors for sale on e-bay that I could have bought and saved a lot of money.

If you decide to go with a 235, try an ebay search for 'chevy 235' everyday for a week or so, you might find something that'll make you think twice about spending the $1,500+ to rebuild your old 216.

For example, here's a 235 rebuilt by Jasper that's been on e-bay for a while, its a pick up only deal and located in Indiana. You could probably get it for $600 or less.

and additional idea is one I did on a 46 pickup back in the 80's. After soaking it with diesel and mystery oil for a week I took the inspection cover off and used a BIG screwdriver on the flywheel teeth. It moved only slightly to begin with but "back and forth" it finally freed all the way up. I started the engine and after smoking for about 30 minutes it cleared up and ran fine. I have also soaked and used a block of wood as someone mentioned but after getting it running the engine was plain worn out. I would try it Pushrod as you have nothing to loose. And then you can "tell us your story".

don,t waste alot of time on the 216 unless you want factory correct...Find a running 235 from 54 to 62,,or a 261 from a larger truck,,keep your eyes open for older GMC trucks maybe you can snag a 270 or 302 from one...doc
