I want to replace the slip joint packing at the collar on the torque tube housing. I did this about 5 years ago and recently it has begun to leak again. Is there a better way to seal this than just the corking? It seems the seal should have held up longer than it has since the last time I replaced it. All responses are appreciated.

Duct tape and bailing twine and bailing wire belong in every emergency tool kit!

The smaller is round and flat and the larger which goes around the ball housing is bevelled. They work fine. I did use the flat thin washers on either side of the smaller one which goes at the end.
