The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area General Truck Talk 56 master cylinder

In the process of getting my 56 3100 roadworthy. Put new brake cylinders and brakes
on each corner and got a rebuild kit for the master. Much to my surprise, the master
is nothing like the Truck Shop Manual! What I found was a master cylinder cast all
one piece with a yoke to pivot the brake pedal. One side says Delco Moraine Products,
the other side has the number 5454530 cast on and 117 stamped on. This look familiar
to anyone? The first of probably what will be many questions. Thanks a lot in advance.

Yep, that one looks just like mine, if I remember correctly.

nothing like? what shop manual ya lookin at? in the brake section there's a figure showing "main cylinder, typical" - means not exactly as shown - the 55 manual doesn't show the yoke [fig.4], 57 does [fig.6], maybe the 56 manual is the same as the 55, but all TaskForce master cyls look just like what you've pictured

I just completed installing some new wheel Cylinders for my front brakes. I had replaced my Master Cylinder just three or four months ago.

I thought all task force master cylinders were about the same?

No matter.. Its nice to not have the Bolt Pull to the left (leak in the Lt. wheel cyl) when you are trying to slow down that much "IRON"

Like red58 said, "main cylider, typical". GM just used a picture that shows the breakdown of the parts, you'll probably find the same pic in manuals back to the '40's trucks and cars. The TF masters are the same for all years, exept for 1 1/2 ton and up and the forward controls. The 1 1/2 ton used a larger bore, the forward control models had a completly different casting. The parts breakdown is the same though.
