I am new at this. Have 65 flt/swb. I am redoing the brakes and need all wheel cylinders. I was mailed a catelog from LMC. They offer a kit w/all 4 cyls. for $70. Are these quality parts? Is this a reasonable price? Are there alternative sources. Is the local parts house just as good? Where do you folks get your parts?

LMC is a good supplier. You can some times find things cheaper but their quality is usually good.

I buy a lot of my parts from LMC. They are very good. A lot of parts like brake parts are available at the local parts store but often are no cheaper.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

I buy the majority of my parts from LMC. A bunch of your drivetrain parts are available at your FLAPS. I bought everthing I needed to rebuild my entire brake system from Advance Auto. Pricewise, they averaged out to be about the same once shipping was added in.

What about the "CHEVY DUTY" catalog? I think it may be called something else now. What do you know about it?

I don't know 'bout the rest of you, but I believe my 1940 gmc is 100% American made. I would like to keep it that way. I am always willing to spend more money on 2 things... brakes, and American parts. Many of the parts suppliers carry foreign parts. They usually advertise pretty well which parts are American made. So why not go with the best possible parts?

ChevyDuty is now know as Classic Parts of America . They're a sponsor of the site, and have a good reputation here for their parts and service.

American Classic sponsors this site and can be reached using the link at the top of the page. I've never seen an announcement that Chevy Duty/Classic Parts has anything to do with this site.

I buy most my parts from LMC. I do so because I feel service is far more important than price. And please don't read any message about American Classic's service between my lines because I've never had a problem with them.

That other vendor hasn't done so well by me.

Click on "Links" at the very top of this page, and then after that page loads up, click on Parts.

FLAPS = friendly local auto parts store

NAPA, Advance and so forth still stock a lot of the mechanical parts like brakes, master cylinders, brake lines, water pumps, gaskets, etc..

Sometimes you might have to order whatever it is that you need, but they have it in their system.

Like Wrenchbender wrote tho', sometimes the local stores are not any cheaper than the mail order/internet vendors.

I,m with Big Daddy about buying American. I,m a strong advocate about buying American cars & trucks but these parts are practically all foriegn made regardless where you buy them.

Wrenchbender, it's good to see another Stovebolt fan in the area... I am about an hour north east of you.

I have recently been "introduced" to LMC and just last night requested a free catalog. What I am curious about is, are they a mail order supplier only? or can we visit their facility?

thanks for your help

I'd like to add another source for parts through the internet, Jim Carter Trucks. I've gotten a few parts from them, and they've been as advertised. Their prices are competitive with Chevy Duty and occasionally cheaper. I shop around and Chevy Duty and Jim Carter are invariably the cheapest for what I'mm looking for. They also seem to have the largest selection. As to quality, I don't have the experience of the others on this board and can't speak to the quality of the parts from these sources versus other sources.
