I've got enough spare '54 parts to make another truck. Question is, what frames fit under these trucks OK? I've heard an S-10 is pretty good but which one? x cab or regular? What are the wheel bases?

I've also got a '46 Ferd that has been poorly put onto a Chevy car (Monte?) frame. I'd like to do the same to it, maybe with a stRanger set up.

I've got a 350/350 and a 351/FMX that I can use for motivation and a wrecked '88 1/2 ton Chevy X cab long bed that I can scavange. I've also got the front and rear of an '82 GMC (frame still hooked to each part but not a full frame).

I've found a page on putting the '82 under my '54 frame with some spacers but I've heard the track is too wide. I'd rather not mess with the Camaro cut and weld, but I could use the Monte front on the Chevy.

Got time, got parts, got very little cash but ambition I got. Dreams, too. Lots o' dreams...

A couple of things for you to consider, first check out the link I borrowed from RichardT http://classicchrisengineering.freeservers.com/50ChevyHome.htm Next check out the thread over in the Lounge titled" Camaro clip trajedy....it is very enlightening. Last get your tape measure and start checking wheel bases of truck and cars, you'll find something soon enough. Don't forget to check from side to side as well as front to back.

I've checked out the site. Cool stuff. I couldn't find the S10 frame thing on USBody Source though. Anyone else tried this? I've heard of splicing them together but not actually swapping the whole thing.

Danny, I've got a '52 Suburban on an S-10 4x4 chassis. The swap should be about the same, maybe easier for a pickup. The US Body page is HERE but is pretty brief and the pics are small. You'll need a long box S-10, you could easily shorten a X-cab, since they're easier to find optioned-out. My web page covers some of the things I ran across doing this swap.

The reason I chose the S-10 was because I wanted a 4x4 with IFS with tires that fit in the wheelwells. Hauling wasn't a priority for me. You've got to figure out what you want out of your truck when you're done and go from there. Make sure you keep your mind open about things and do your own research. I'm sure you'll find this with any swap, but there are a few people out there who have a little "posterior intrusion" for the S-10 despite having no experience with anything other than a rusty stocker. It's not a bad chassis but I don't know if I'd use it to haul a lot of stuff without some beefing up.

And, by the way, I've also got a '84 S-10 4x4 Blazer with a 350/350 powertrain as my daily driver, so putting some muscle into them is do-able. I'd say the engine swap is even easier with the AD body swap. Drop me an email if you want.

Naw, didn't mean you. Just knowitall locals around here 'bouts.. Made sure I drove by their place when I got mine running. Mind you, I shouldn't complain, I got issues with the '84-ish crossmember swaps. But what do I care, if it's someone else's truck and they're having fun with it.

Why, you got somethin' wrong with yer posterior? Forget I asked that one, I don't wanna know.. :P

And BTW - ALL S-10's are rusty! All the more reason to yank the bodies off of 'em!

Hey I got a 94 new style ,8 NY salt winters and the paint look great, no rust showing at all.Better grab up the old ones fast.Yup, just do your truck the way you like and mine the way I like.Then we are both smiling

I've got a line on an S10 Blazer 4x4 with no motor for the price of hauling it home. What motors can I put in this without hamming up the tranny/transfer? It is a 2 door with a 109" WB, should I look at extending it? Looks like I can splice in some C channel and call it good (well, I'd do it right and not take it lightly...)
