Hey guys. I have started doing the body work on my 57 stepside cab and was thinking about removing it from the frame to do the work. Has anyone done this, if so any tips? How hard is it? Thanks!

You'd be surprised what you can accomplish with two rented or borrowed engine hoists.

I've taken the bodies off of a '56 and '57 Chevy car...the '57 was a station wagon.

Swapped frames under the wagon body in a couple of hours.

Some things that might come in handy: a couple of 4x4 landscape timbers. Some chain. a couple big honkin' eye bolts, and equally big honkin' flat washers.

As one who is still equiping his shop, I can appreciate the need for chains and eyebolts. Being type A, I have to ponder on the exact meaning of Big Honkin. Sounds like something I need though.

I just took the cab off my 65 by myself. I unbolted it, took the doors off, put a 2x6 through the cab from door to door, put a chain on the 2x6, hooked it to the engine hoist and TADAH! it was off. Then I moved it tot he other side of the garage and set it on jack stands. Not hard, even for a type "A" there Todd M. smile
