i don't know much about the 59 Cameo as far as rarity and value. It seems in good shape but that doesn't look like a frame off resto to me. the whole idea of a frame off is to clean restore and paint/powder coat each part. The interior of this truck looks pristine but under the hood is the question. Why do a frame off and not clean and coat the frame and engine?

I wouldn't consider it without a real up close in person inspection and a test drive, but there are guys on this site much smarter than me whe it comes to these things. I am sure they will chime in.

I've never heard of a Cameo stepside. Maybe He's got the only one.

That's as close to being legit as a three dollar bill. The Cameo was never a stepside! The trim package included a chrome grill, bumper, window trim, for starters. The Cameo was the bed, it was fiberglass done especially for the Cameo. The Cameo bed is what begot the 59 Fleetside, that replaced it. I don'tknow what he spent 30 years restoring but it wasn't a Cameo, and for 30 years effort I would think he might have a clue. As close as he get's to rarity is the large back window on a stepside.

I didn't know Cameos were made in 1959. Even chevytrucks.org said '58 was the last year.

Truck is worth about 20% of what he wants for it.

I agree with all looks like a ripoff.

It appears the seller has received the message. The ad no longer references "Cameo".

well maybe he changed the ad in the couple hours since AC started this, but I don't see the word Cameo anywhere - if he put 30,000 into that ...... he should hafta have a co-signer on the bank account! it's yer run of the mill resurrected 59 stepside that looks like it has had 15 years put on it as he sez - worth about 5-7000 if it's solid, especially w/ what he sez it needs

Nice looking '59, I wouldn't mind having it, but he is asking more than I would be willing to pay.

As for the value, it is worth as much as someone is willing to pay, and you never know, he just may find the right person.

Although, I really doubt that he has that much invested, and even if he does, that dosen't necessarilly make it worth anymore.

Just because we may think that his price is too steep, dosen't mean that he won't get it.

I think that he could at least offer to provide a clear title.

He definitely was calling it a Cameo in the beginning, not just the rear glass. Said it was a "rare stepside cameo". That would be rare indeed.

Don't know about the truck but he just signed up for ebay? (Member: since Jun-09-06) I'd stay away like the plague(sp?), unless you could look at it in person (& lower the price).

If he spent 30,000 shouldn't the tires be a matching set and wouldn't the motor be clean? Also looks like it might have a few dents in the driver back fender.

You'd think the seller would take the time to clean the dust out of the engine compartment and degrease the oil-bath residue on the engine before he tries to sell the thing! And for 10k, a brake job ain't much to ask.

I can believe spending 30k on the retoration since I'm getting close to 22k on my 51 in parts, a/c, t-5, etc... and havn't strarted the body work and didn't pay for any labor other than machine work. Unfortunately, as everyone who works on cars knows, you rarely get back what you put into it. A 10k car that took you 20k to restore is still only worth about 10k except to idiots and collectors. His description says need final paint job, so 30k on just mechanics, unless he had someone else do it, is a bit steep.

The engine compartment is what gets me. A frame up and it looks like the motor hasn't been touched. Yeah, gotta be a scam. Probably stolen since there is no title. Beleive me, If I'm going to put any money into a vehicle, its gotta have a title. If he truely spent $30,000 on it, he must have had a overpriced shop do all the work.

If he can get $30k for that, I'll take $20k for my Ugly Truck. And you'd get a clean engine compartment and matching tires.

maybe he meant $300 invested because it looks like the only thing done to it was a new seat upholstery.

I guess his idea of a restoration is using a bucket of soapy water and a sponge.

I E-mailed him, and he wrote back...

He informed me that the engine and compartment were "just dirty" and the frame had been painted.

The cab had been painted about 4-6 years back with a new seatcover installed and he also said that he did not understand the term.. "80% Off frame restoration." :confused: He said that his grandfather had told him about the truck because it had been in his family for several years.

As to the "no title" issue..he didn't reply to that question. :rolleyes:

He said that he wished he had never put it on E-Bay because of all the E-mails of this nature.

Well I told Jerry (thats his name) All the Collector Car Community asks, is that you be as honest about the item as you can. Even saying that you don't know is OK.

Here's a truck we built at our shop that was the same price--$25,000. You can see what that should buy for you AND let the shop make a fair profit. It's an AD not a TF but hammering, painting, etc are the same whether on a Packard or a Yugo. Notice the a/c, p/s, pb, V8, a/t, Dolphin guages, CD/stereo, tailgate chain eliminators, hidden fuel fill, clean bed, and a CLEAN ENGINE BAY. What's wrong with the color? I like it! My dad had a '71 3/4 ton that was that color, never mind that orange is vary popular with tha Camaro set.

Nice project truck but I don't see anything except a new seat to suggest any work that has been done. Didn't see any paint on the frame rails but did notice the oil that has been leaking around the valve cover.
