This started yesterday.The 327 I have in my '66 Chevy truck wants to stall on me when I make right turns.Not right turns in the road but turning a corner right turns.I checked the fuel lines and the battery wires to my HEI distributor and vaccum lines and even checked to see if my tires were hitting something.Could my fuel pump be going out? This happens especially after I downshift from third to second to make a turn. Please help me out.This drives me nuts.

P.S.I hope to soon add this truck to the gallery sometime.I love this truck! After fixing this thing up and lowering it I get all kinds of looks and even had a guy come to my door asking me to sell it to him.

It could be one of two things. If your running a brass float in your carb, it may have pinhole/s in it making it "heavy", and your fuel level in the bowl is too high causing the extra fuel to bleed over around turns. It could also be the float level adjusted too high causing the same concern. If you're running a composite float, it may be fuel soaked, and has become "heavy". Or, it may also be out of adjustment. Hope this helps.

Forgot to mention. If you're running the brass float, take it out and shake it. You can hear the fuel sloshing around inside........

sounds like a float stuck, something weird, does it happen regardless of how much fuel is in the tank?

you might also check any rubber fuel lines to see if any have a hole or small crack, probably in a hard to see area to see if you see any fuel... had this happen to me where it stalled,,,but not just on rt turns....good luck with it,,, till then change directions and go left all the time

Never thought about the float in the carb.It's a fairly new carb though.Failing all else I will take the top off and look at the float this weekend.It's an Edelbrock carb so it has a composite float I believe.My rubber fuel lines behind the pump are old and brittle looking.I will replace those after work tomorrow.Thanks guys,this helps alot.

While you're checking things,you might want to check the line before the fuel pump;maybe when you turn right it torques the engine over enough to open an air leak so the fuel pump sucks in a big gulp of air,causing the sputter. Then,when the turn's completed the leak seals back up and you're back in business.
In theory,by turning LEFT your engine should run even BETTER than usual,right Joker?

Seriously, I agree, it's the carb. If it were the fuel line, then the carb. bowl should have enough in it to get you around the corner.

Of course if the fuel line IS brittle, then replace it anyway.

If the float level is too low it can stall around a corner also.

That "only right turn" thing is what has me baffled. What could only be affected during a right turn? Could be float level,depending on which way the float pivots,which way the gas sloshes...

Could check the coil wire and see where it is, and if the high tension (spark plug wires) are near the block and flopping about.

I had the same problem but was with braking - and it was the float level on my 292.

I think I found it.It's time for me to clean my gas tank.I found sediment in the float bowl that got passed the filter.I've changed the filter 3 times in a year.When turning right it must have been blocking something.I hope thats it anyways.I cleaned it out the best I can and I'll be driving it to work today and give an update later.

i had a trash problem on my 72 truck.it would stop up the filter, fill up with crud in the float bowl or lock up the fuel pump. a sputter was the only warning i got.i had the fuel tank boiled out and the problam went away.
