For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 5 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: May 2006 Posts: 5 | I am kinda new to this forum and at a disadvantage because i am couple thousand miles from my pickup I am sitting in Iraq. I am trying to find the cab bushings for my C-20 I was wondering if a set for a c-10 could be used and what I could do to get the cab lower edge level with the bed? Also I would like to put powersteering in it when I get home in July and was wondering if anyone had done this and how they did it.

Do a search on here for the power steering question. There have been many of us asking that same question with knowledgeable replies.
The body bushings are the same for 1/2 through 1 ton. Check your cab supports. They might be rotted and causing the cab to droop. The bed is usually fastened rigid to the frame so it sets right, unless the floor is rotted away in the bed, then it might droop too. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 2,384 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 2,384 | the 3/4 & one ton etc trucks used a different rear cab mount-called a shear-type. It works well and is worth the cost!! I am not much on kits, but this one i recommend. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 2,893 Socket Breaker | | Socket Breaker Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 2,893 | grahambotrash So you love your classic truck, except for the fact that it’s just too hard to drive with the manual steering. Relax. For owners of ’60-’66 Chevy and GMC pickups, there’s a solution. Rez Engineering has developed a kit that allows you to retrofit a power steering box to your truck. All it takes is a power box from a ’68 to ’84 ½-ton two-wheel-drive truck, a pump, and the brackets and instructions from Rez Engineering. Oh, it will take you a little time and effort, too, but you’d better believe the results are worth it. Let’s check it out. http://www.customclassictrucks.com/techarticles/84378/ there are pics and stuff with the article also. no website yet: Rez Engineering P.O. Box 1584 Great Falls, MT 59405 406/727-9267 ---- I know a guy online who has a 64-66 c20, I'll ask him about those cab bushing things. -W | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 2,893 Socket Breaker | | Socket Breaker Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 2,893 | hilander451 has this to write after I emailed and asked him about the c20 cab bushings: I believe the difference is in the rear cab mounts. I did a little bit of research a while back and found there were basically two different setups. One type of mounts were the same style used on the C10’s but heftier. The other style rear mounts were found on trucks with saddle tanks and they had a vulcanized mount that resembles a classic chevy motor mount in construction. I have the later type on my truck. Just by sheer luck and posting a picture of what I needed on the internet a good friend of mine (Ol’Grunt) just happened to see a brand new set lying on a table of junk at the Pomona swap meet about 5 years ago. As far as I know, they don’t make that kind anywhere. I’m pretty sure the front ones will fit out of a C10.(I’m going to test that theory whenever I get that !$$%@@ cab done!) If my memory serves me correctly, Persh has a link to a site that shows plans for a fabricated replacement mount that uses the C10 bushings Persh's Page: http://www.persh.org/Pickup/IdeaPage.htm Here’s a link to a pic of the “sheer” type rear cab mount: http://home.earthlink.net/~hilandr451/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/cabmount1.JPG ---- -W | | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 5 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: May 2006 Posts: 5 | Woogeroo I realy appreciate the help do you know if the pittman arm will mate up on the a C20 if am using a 1/2 box or should I try to find a 3/4 ton box.

Always get a 2nd opinion, especially if I am the source of the 1st opinion.

They didn’t have power steering boxes on ’65 pickups. Some models had power assisted steering (hydraulic ram assist) in those years, but they used a standard gear drive steering box.
I do know the pitman arms are bigger and beefier on the C20 than the C10. The length of the pitman arm looks to be the same between the two, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you can mix & match between the steering boxes. For fear of stating the obvious, I guess the limiting factor would be the diameter of the shaft and the number of splines on the pitman shaft coming out of the gear box, and the ball joint post diameter on the drag link.

The REZ kit uses a later model steering box and pump(I think you can order with or obtain your own) and has nifty brackets and other things that come with it.
Maybe you should write them a letter and ask 'em... I'm sure they'd be happy to answer yer questions.

The pitman arm hole was just the right for my '65 3/4-ton linkage. Since I also used the 350 engine from the Suburban I didn't have to worry about monuting a pump. All I had to do was find some hoses. BTW, I did update the Idea Page with 3/4-ton rear cab mount information, if you care to have a look.
