Seeing the pictures of Jeff Lauber's 53 with the logs grown in it brings back memories of the many sightings I have had. I remember seeing a AD in a pasture along the highway somewhere near Plano TX a few years ago that had a tree growing through the engine bay. My uncles farm in southwest Minnesota grows old iron best. He has many rusted out shells of vehicles with trees in, on or very close to the bodies. One is a 30's GM 1.5 ton with trees coming through the frame rails that sits next to a Farmall Regular tractor with a tree growing through it. Guess I'd rather see them as planters than sent to the recycler.

I have a friend that built a nice old 50 model F&^% that he had to cut down a sapling that had grown through the floor pan(or lack of) and started pushing up through the roof just to get it where they could load it on a trailer! My first thought would have been what a shame to let that old car get in that shape, his first thought was theres my car,its still in pretty good shape.

Where in SW Minnesota is your uncle? What town is he near? Maybe I've seen his "bolt crop".

I've got a photo of an AD truck with a tree growing in the engine compartment that was taken about three miles north of my house in Hurst, Texas just before the tree and the truck were removed to make way for a new subdivision of houses.

Kind of sad to see that old truck go, but the picture hangs in my shop.

Last truck I saw with a tree growing through it also had a bumper sticker saying " Remember the Poeblo"

kruizeag, that's a little more west central from where I'm at. We have a truck at work that we only use to haul demolished building materials. The last time I looked, it had weeds and a small tree growing in one of the drip rails over the door! When we cleaned up our grove many years ago, we found an AD pick-up box that all the boards had rotted out of and had trees and bushes growing through it.

My 59 had the obligatory tree growing through it, and from the same guy, my 47 jeep also had a tree growing through it. I wonder if there is something about the shade or cover that helps trees grow through these things. Or perhaps its the squirrels living in them, dropping accorns and what-not that makes them planters.

The jeep had about 1 foot of detritus in it and it was becoming quite a planter. It also had about a bazillon fire ants in it.
