opened the hood on the '39, it aways runs better after i open the hood and just look.
pulled the generator from a 54 to use on the 39.
installed a swimg crane on the back of my floresent yellow dodge (old state truck) to use when picking parts and moving them around.
was a very warm and sunny day in south jersey, now it is back to cool, damp, and windy.

Nothing on the Bolt, BUT, cleaned up around the garage, called Zig's and figured out what suspension parts I want for the '50 Burb, worked on a T-shirt design for the next All Truck Show and priced out a few more things for building a shop this summer.

Busy doing nothing, Buddy

Here's a link to those pictures I promised.

They really don't do the collection justice, but will at least give you an idea of some of the stuff that was in there.

After some discussion about 4spd trans.,at this site, about early/later yrs,swapping..., I went out and looked over what I had. Found 2 old crashbox originals, one that I've seen before cause of the work I'd done to fix the (^#(_(*)@* thing. The one case has a broken mount/bolthole. But the guts/gears are AS GOOD AS NEW! No metal in oil,as, maybe someone rebuilt and dropped on the floor, broken off trans to engine mount?! So I just swapped cases(on the dining room floor, wifes away and when I say clean,it was"clean enough to"... well)and it feels like I might have newer trans(still a crash box), but need to get a new pressure plate(11"disc/flywheel),at least thats what I told myself. Can't wait to get out there..."in the cold rain and snow"

I changed the oil and filter and put grease in the 16 or 20 fittings on the front of my '65 c10... then yesterday I swapped out the starter motor off the '92 350... seems to start a lot better now.

What basic, un-glamourous, 'keep it running/maintance' type stuff have you done to your 'bolt lately?

Just finished phase 2 of the final painting. Completed fire wall, bed sides, front bed panel, bed strips, splash aprons, rear sill, re-painted tailgate & front splash apron.

The final paint phase will include the cab, doors, front fenders, rear fenders and hood. Still need to perform final fit on doors, install bear claw latches, prep dash and re-build window mechanisms. Can't wait.

Well, let's see...

I had my front driver's side drum turned (it was out of round) and reinstalled it. Adjusted the brakes, and put the tire back on. Next projects to be completed are (1) Turn Signals, (2) Brake Lights, and (3) Tachometer installation.

I also still need to have the cops come out and do a VIN inspection so I can get it titled on the body serial instead of the engine serial.

And I need to call around for pricing on fixing up my license plate.

In other maintenance news...

On my Bonneville, I swapped tire sets and I put a new washer fluid pump on. The next projects there will be fixing the antenna and taking it to the shop to fix the EVAP code. While it's there, I'll probably have them put a new squirrel cage in. I'd do it myself if there was room to do it without rocking the engine forward... grin

Gertrude (my garden tractor) needs a diff seal. I currently have a large puddle of 80/90 on my garage floor.

My stupid POS push mower needs some TLC (AKA a large sledgehammer). The rear wheels are adjustable -- in fact, they're a little too adjustable, if you know what I mean. The adjustable part is going away, and I'm gonna bolt the dumb things right to the deck and be done with it.

Actually, I think that the only thing that I own with an engine on it that DOESN'T need work is my weedwacker. [thinks about it] Actually, it might need an oil change...

I got the new 261 running and discovered the usual minor leaks and problems that I'm now working on, including a leak in the offy manifold where I hoped there wouldn't be one.

I pulled the starter, generator (6 volt), water pump, and radiator off my '54 GMC to have them rebuilt. I am waiting for bed wood, tail lights stainless bolt kit and back bumper from local Fat Fender shop. Then I'll put it together to have it back on the road after a 30 year rest. I can hardly wait, it will replace my '92 GMC as my daily driver.

Finally removed my dash and managed to snap both throttle and chock cables in the process, removed the front grill to see how corroded it really is and boy is it, will be looking for a replacement. Hoping this weekend to be able to clean the dash and start thinking about putting it back in.

Been tryin to get the Graham Paige Frazer garden tractor runnin to till garden. Needs to have carb cleaned out...oh well. goin white water raftin on the ROGUE RIVER this weekend...peace,rc

Right now, I'm installing electric window regulators in my '59 Apache. I dug about two pounds of crud out of the driver's side door bottom! I spread that rust converter stuff around the cleaned-out door bottom and let it dry, then sprayed in undercoating. The electric regulators (from 'It's A Snap') ought to bolt in pretty easily. This kit was on e-bay, just as cheap as a pair of NOS mechanical regulators.

I recently finished installing a 25 gallon fuel tank behind the rear axle. The filler's in the rear of the bed. That ought to give me a 640 mile cruising range. I had to disassemble the rear springs and slip the stock overload springs among the other leaves to compensate for the fuel tank weight and a small camper/trailer I pull around sometimes. I have about 11 inches ground clearance for the rear tank.

Last week, I printed out a new speedo face all white with black numbers onto peel-and-stick printer paper, then put that on the speedo backing plate and had a plain glass bezel cover plate fabbed up. Wow! Does it look good!

Good luck, guys!

I'm puting in the floor of my '70 chev.
(I'll call it "frankin chev") 5 trucks in 1.
I'm turning my old beloved 3/4 ton to 4/4.
Probably won't be a show truck like the '66, I want to try painting for for the experience.
I have the cab in the shop, on blocks puting new ribs to support the floor to go on a '76 4x4 chassis. I really would like to get into truck pulling some day!

I worked almost all day last Saturday on the transmission cover on my 51. Since the shifter on my GM 89mm is near the back of the tranny and the old SM420 shifter is near the front of the tranny, I had to move the hole. I cut the old shifter tower hole from the original location and welded it in the proper location in the back corner of the tranny cover. I then welded a patch to take the place of the metal I moved. I then noticed a little rust damage on the corner nearest the accelerator pedal so I fixed it as well. I will then focus on the driver's side floorpan's rust repair.

I think I'll get some Zero Rust or something similar and try to prevent any further rust damage. I may even get some roll-on bed liner and coat the floorpan and kick panels with bedliner material.

I'm down to nothing but frame on my '50 3100 project. I found you can fit 75% of a 3100 in your attic through a 4'x2' opening.

I'm grinding all the old dirt and rust off the frame before I paint it with Zero Rust. Then I have to start reassembly with all new brakes and lines.

Then I'll think about the cab, but 60 work weeks are really slowing progress.

Sounds like good stuff to me.

Are all these trucks in the Gallery? Hmmmm? (Some I know for sure.) Even updates??

The Gallery is the second most hit spot on the Bolt. As of this morning, 4,624 hits there. Other folks come there looking for help. Some for dreaming and wishing and hoping.
Send us something when you can.

Got a Holley/Weber put on the 235 and the turn signals wired in and functioning properly (fried the coil return wire from the ignition in the process and replaced all that mess). Next up is a new dual reservior master cylinder, proportioning valve, residual valves, and new lines (Discs up front/9" F**d Drums in the rear). Gotta love these old trucks!

Hey, guys, tell me about this 'zero-rust' stuff. Where do you get it? Is it like some sort of undercoating?

Thanks!

www.raybucks.com has the best prices on ZR that I have found. It is a high solids paint that is intended for industrial uses but works great on the undersides of body panels or other areas not planned to be top coated with color. I have used it extensively on my project. Good stuff IMO.

That's http://raybuck.com/

That Ray Buck isn't me, but it's an interesting coincidence. Speaking of which, in previous life, I worked for Unisys which started out as a merger between the #3 an 4 (or something close to that) computer companies (Burroughs and Sperry) with 160,000 employees world wide. And in Salt Lake City, there were two Ray C. Bucks working for the same company, both as system software techs. It got REAL confusing...and I still get phone calls for the other guy. Btw, we both got "downsized" as Unisys shrunk to less than 20,000 employees and a very small share of the computer market.

As far as my Bolt (64 C10), I've just been drivin the heck out of it and enjoying the ride. Wonna these daze I'm gonna upgrade to front disc brakes, dual line master cylinder (power assist, too) and power steering. But for now the old skool stuff works just fine and has fewer parts to wear or break.

I've used POR-15 on a frame of another project quite successfully, but decided to give Zero Rust a try on this project. If it's anything like POR, it's great for the frame and underside protection. I got mine from www.zero-rust.com

Peggy, I'll send pictures/story of my truck for the gallery as soon as it even remotely resembles a truck again.

Just finished priming the bed sides. Almost have the tailgate made.( flat on both sides ). Decided to make a rear rollpan so the sheetmetal shop has my cut list. FREEBE! So far all my sheetmetal has been free. grin All they require is they want to see it when it's finished and they like my wife's voice. That helps.
Until next time. See Ya.

Went on a last minute drive in the Sierra foothills along Hwy 49, picked up a buddy and met up with a speedster club. These speedster guys from all over the west coast were on a four day tour from Nevada through the Gold country. What a cool bunch of rides, mostly hopped up 4 bangers, Fords, Chevs and a Buick straight 8. Rube Goldberg would be impressed with the ingenous mods and trickery of these folks.

Oh, BTW the 46 ran great, first mountain shake down ride since T-5, went super, pulled really strong although power brakes would be an improvement.

Happy Mother's Day to all you Mothers!

I spent 3 hours picking broken glass out of the bottom of the drivers door (it has new glass in it, but whoever broke the old one left it all in the bottom)
The I filled the cracks and re-sprayed the steering wheel.
I fitted new wiper blades.
I lost my horrible UK orange rear indicators and re-housed them in with the stop/tail lights. (as a result, I now have the to fit the lenses upside down)
Also drove 85 miles in it, rather than use my company Nissan. Surely I don't need to explain why to you guys?

I dropped the SM420 out of my GMC,got some measurements for driveline length for the Saginaw I'm putting back in with the 270.Cleaned and re-filled the oil bath filter for the six, then spent an hour trying to figure out how to convert my trucks pull type throttle to the sideways push type the 270 needs. Gave up on that for now.(Maybe change over to a 70's cable set up?)Pulled the clutch off the 270 to see what shape it's in. Looks relatively new,but I think the disc was in backwards. The springs were toward the flywheel, just looked wrong to me. The flywheel shows lots of cracks on the friction surface. Hope it can still be turned. The pilot bearing is a loose slip fit into the end of the crank. How can I tighten it up?
looked at the possibility of installing an oil filter on the 270. Not sure where the lines go.
Tried to fit a vacuum advance line to the distributor, but the fittings are wrong. Looked at the fuel pump, can a 235 fuel pump be used on a 270? I have a nearly new one of those.
Also fixed my sister's glasses.
