| | THANKS!
For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jul 2003 Posts: 28 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2003 Posts: 28 | I have a 63 1/2 ton with original style 4 wheel drum brakes . Everything has been replaced - drums , shoes , hardware , wheel cylinders , lines and master (upgraded to a dual, non power). I have had a squeling issue for years when braking , hence the replaced parts . The problem arises after a few miles and the brakes have warmed up . I do not want to change over to a disc system as I have invested too much money in the original drum set up . Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions about how to defeat those squealing brakes ? (no jokes about throwing out an anchor please.) Thanks in advance . | | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 3,068 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 3,068 | BG makes a anti-noise coating you let absorb into the shoe/pad lining that works very well. You may find something simular at a parts house to fix your noise, Scott | | | | | Joined: Jul 2003 Posts: 28 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2003 Posts: 28 | What is BG ? This anti noise coating - it isnt 10W30 is it ? | | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 3,068 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 3,068 | BG is BG Specialty Co. They make the cleaners for transmission flushers, anti-freeze flushers, carbon cleaners and all kinds of aerosol cleaners and lubricants. You'll probably have to go to a shop or dealership to find this brand but a lot of places carry it.
I'm not sure what's in the Brake Quiet, but you saturate the lining with it and wait until it evaporates dry, then reinstall your drums and you're done. It was developed to help eliminate noise in the high metallic pads, but does work well on shoes too.
