Will be between front of cowl and braided welt? cushion? | | | | | Joined: May 2004 Posts: 8 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: May 2004 Posts: 8 | kb3csw ,thanxs for the responce.I haven't found anything like you said.Guess I'll have to look harder. stefanP

When you lift the passenger side hood the vin tags are located on the side of cab under the hood between the firewall and the weather stripping. there are two tags one with vin and one with weight capacity. the top tag is about 2"X6" with vin. the bottom tag has capacity info about 1.5"X6" both tags are mounted so long side is vertical. If you have 4 (2 each Plate) screw holes or screws holding nothing in these positions the vin tags may have been removed. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,378 Ex Hall Monitor | | Ex Hall Monitor Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,378 | Your "serial number" is on the plate kb3csw refers to. Your "Vin" is the engine number which is on a milled boss just behind and below the distributor. I had to scrape 1/4" of gunk off of mine to get the number. If you request the Restoration Packet from Chevrolet the engine number is the number they will ask for. That is the number your title is issued to. You can request a Restoration Packet by calling 1-800-222-1020. It has all of the info about your truck that the factory has. All the specs and info like where your numbers are (page 9).

I have a '37 that is missing the cab plates altogether (it took photos of other trucks to show me where they used to reside). I found the chassis numbers while prepping for the IFS I installed.
Once it's gone I don't suppose there's any way to figure out exactly what you have...
Everything is different now...

It has engine specs, tranny, frame, rearend, body, suspension specs. It tells you how to decode the numbers, how to figure engine speed in different gears at different highway speeds. It's basically all of the technical info they have on your year vehicle. It includes diagrams a drawings. It's free to US citizens. Well worth a phone call. They will ask for your VIN "engine" number.
