I'm looking to put disc brakes on the rear instead of using the original drums. Is there a simple (and cheap) way to put discs on the rear end or will I need to swap out the rear end? And if I go about swapping out the rear end does anyone know of one with a similar width and has disc brakes. Oh, this is a 1/2 ton if it makes any difference.

The simple way is to buy a kit from one of the specialtie suplyers but it,s not cheap anyway you go.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

If you want to keep it 6 lug you can get a '63-'67 rear axle out of a 1/2 ton Chevy truck. If you get the right one you can get a 3.07 rearend. There is a cheap disc brake kit for that axle.

Where could I find the cheap disc kit for the 63-67 rear axle?? Have one under my 46 half ton.

Yeah if you've got a link or manufacturer name that'd be useful as I've spent the last hour trying to find it and have so far been w/o luck.

Thanks in advance.

What about the disc brake rear end from a 1999-2005 Chev/GMC 1/2 ton? They have the same 6-bolt pattern as the early trucks. Or the width of the 6-bolt disc brake axle from a late model Chev Trailblazer/GMC Envoy might work better for you.
