OK so here's my problem... 235 1960 engine, I bought a rebuilt single barrel carb from Recarb last July. We fussed with the timing, etc and got her running so-so. Just finished putting a new head in her (old one cracked) and had a bit of a challenge getting her to run right. Now have her running well BUT it idles like crap - races like crazy. The problem has definately been isolated to the carb. Funny thing is that we can tap the base and the idle will drop. Tap it again and she races. We're now thinking that we got a bad piece of work from Recarb. Of course warranty has run out...

Any thoughts?? Any NOS carbs out there??

I'd first make sure you don't have a vacuum leak, then check floats in the carb. I had lots of trouble until I installed an inline fuel pressure regulator, set at 3.5 lbs. If that stuff won't help, I'd readjust the lifters and go through basic tune up. Best of luck.

Jim,are you the one with the filter king regulator ?
That is a great looking fuel pressure regulator.I did a search on them,none available here in the u.s..I was considering one, they look so stock on these old bolts.What model are you running ?

Yes, well actually I was asking Frank who has one on his 41 Chev. I bid on a couple on ebay, but discovered that at Rallynuts.com I could get a brand new one cheaper than the stuff on ebay and that's including shipping from England. I got the 67mm Filter King, was here in less than a week. Haven't had time to install it yet, maybe this weekend. I have had problems in the past with to much fuel pressure. Read about the Filter King on several sites, word is that the old inline unit like I had will crap out in a year or two. I also picked up a pressure gauge to keep an eye on the thing. Oh, if you go to Rallynuts to buy anything, their home page has a 5 Pound discount, so sign up for that before you order the part.
