I can not reach behind the bolt. I tried a cutoff wheel on my dremel but the disk is too wide for the channel the bolt sits in. A hacksaw blade is taking forever to take the threaded end off so I could drill it out. Any suggestions to a newbe at this. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 144 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 144 | It's a square nut I believe that sits up in a slot in the running board, As soon as you try to turn it, the square nut just spins in the slot as the metal from the tab that holds the nut in place just bends. Like highwayman says just break them and get replacement nuts and screws from the local hardware store.
Bob T | | | | | Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 587 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 587 | One of those small air disc cutters with a 2 or 3" blade should be able to cut the bolt at bottom side. Just don't cut metal or not much anyway. OR, I use a 4-1/2" grinder many times.
Did you try to pull up on step to lock heads in better? If they are tight, better to just tighten more till they break off. They are pretty small bolts, break easy.
