I was hoping someone could help me w/ ques. abt the underseat gas tank in my 37'pu. Is the air vent valve on top, that vents out the bottom prone to break or quit working?? Do I need to do something to check/test it out?? Also, what kind of gas cap is used on the tank?? It looks like some special kind of threads not normal for a fuel cap. I just don't want alot of fumes in the cab. Thanks for any help. Mark H.

Giladad1 -- Send me a private message and I will try to scan the page in the manual that shows a diagram and explains it. Its been a long time since I did mine but just calling from memory the vent has a cork "washer" that will come up to prevent gas from coming out and the vent goes back down through the tank and any fumes go out the bottom. The gas cap has a little ball(?) in the center to keep it from splashing. As I said, all this is from memory but I will check out the book again. I hope to soon put a tank between the rails behind the rear in. Just putting gas in the tank leaves fumes for a day or two!! In the meantime maybe someone with recent knowledge will chime in. Oh, I have a friend in Phoenix that redid a 37 but resto rodded it like me. Is he close to you?

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile

The gas cap in my '37 is unvented and threads in. There is a gasket on the cap to make a tight seal against the tank.
