Twice pipes are cool but not without a downside.
No carb heat in a 235 engine at 0500 hrs on a real cold 40 degree Southern California morning sucks.
The engine spits and jerks and refuses to go beyond 2000 RPM.

Twenty minutes later, all warmed up, she purrs like a kitten.

I guess I could route exhaust heat off one or both of the two (now plugged) threaded ports in the Fenton split manifolds to a brass or aluminium valve (that I would have to make).
The brass or aluminum valve would be bolted to a stainless steel cover plate on the bottom of the original intake manifold.
Hot air (exhaust) would toast the bottom of the intake (and carb) when the valve was open and could be closed after five minutes of warmup with a cable connected from the valve lever to the dash mounted Throttle control.
Is there an easier way?
Has somebody already done this and maybe even marketed a retro kit ?
Any suggestions?
Mike

I don't know if you've seen the Heat Plate Kits on ebay.

The problem I'm having is I don't know if this will marry up to the bottom of a Fenton intake.

Mike,
Jim Carter sells a kit for that for less $ than the one on EBay. I'm in the process of installing that right now. I can tell you that the intake warming kit installs quite easily (Unlike the header itself) What I don't yet know is how well it works, since I still need to make some pipes before I fire the thing up.

How do the kits integrate with aluminum intakes like InMy40s stated? Namely, if you're "not" running Fenton exhaust or tube headers.

The kit is for Fenton headers with the stock intake manifold, which is what I have and what it sounds like Mike is setting up. If you're doing it the other way around, stock exhaust with aftermarket intake, then I don't know. I haven't seen any adapters, though I haven't looked. I don't imagine it would be particularly hard to fabricate one.

You can also buy the plate kit from www.stoveboltengineco.com . It's a piece of aluminum plate with fitting for running engine water through the intake. Not as fast as exhaust heat. The plate works with either a stock intake or aftermarket.

The Fenton 216 intake will bolt to a 216 exhaust without modifying, same with the 235(with 235 exhaust manifold).

it is not the best picture but on my community webshots there are pictures of my setup. i got the plate from langdons stovebolt and used copper tubing, it is just pressure fit no solder but i did have to put a selftapping screw in one to keep it on because my truck would back fire and blow it off. hope this helps. ron

Mike, you can try Langdons Stovebolt Engine Co. they make a hotwater heater plate for the 2 & 3 carb. manifolds. I think the kit was about $30.00 but try the link below.

Or... you could do what I did and get a thermo housing and water pump from a 261 and use the by-pass feature to heat the intake. I made my own plate and went to the fitting store and NAPA to get those. I used 5/16th brake line and a cheap tubing bender. It looks stock and works like a charm. I plan on using the same lines and plate for the 2 X 1 Edelbrock I'll be installing soon. http://community.webshots.com/album/360111285YfkRkF
This suggestion I got from another member from here. Thanks 4onthefloor!
