Greetings everyone.

Over the years here, I see less folks running the old 216 in their trucks.

I would like to find out who else here runs stock 216's and drivelines in their truck or car.

My 216 runs like a champ.

Who else has got one?

Hey my 42 3/4 ton also has original 216 engine and it runs great. (just wish the truck did right now). Other than a fairly rapid cylinder wall wear rate, these engines are bullet proof....and replacement engines can be picked up for next to nothing. I love em'

I have a nice running 216 in my 1951 1/2 ton. The cylinders have sleeves in them and I have insert bearings now. Good and strong, but with stock gears and driveline, I run slow. But since I am retired, who's in a hurry! BW

My '46 hasn't got the original 216, it's a 1953 216, but it's running fine. I do have a two-carb intake manifold and some dress-up items though.

Niagara,

I've got 2 Splash engines. a 39 216 in my 46, and a 48 235 in one of my 52's.

I like em.

I'm running a stock 216 in my 1949 3800. It was rebuilt before I bought the truck in 1997.

I do plan on installing a 235 this year but will not retire the 216. Instead it will go into another vehicle that is driven locally instead of cross country as the 3800 does when the need arises.

My 1940 3/4 ton still has the original 216, 3 speed tranny and torque tube drive line. Top speed is 45 - 50. The engine runs great, like a sewing machine. If it ever blows up (doubt it) I would probably replace it with another if I could find one near by.

I rebuilt my original 216, two years ago. When the truck is finished, that is what I will be using. I must say thatthere was very little cylinder wear at 78,000 miles. I did however convert the rods to inserts. here are some shots of my project along the way:

46 chevy school bus 35 year nap woke it up a bit grumpy at first but runs like a well rested race horse. Who needs 235 ci's when all the 216's are out there to kick their butts.

stock 216 in the '46 1/2 ton, and stock 235 in the 2 ton.. haven't given me any problems untill recently, when the 1/2 ton didn't wanna start for a bit.. but that's probably all my fault, anyway.

Fired right up today every time I hit the stomp start, and purred like a kitten.

Still seriously considering going with a newer rear and an "open" drive line.. but so long as she keeps running nice, i'll keep it.

If I ever do have to replace the engine, i'll go with a later full pressure 235, or maybe a 261.

My 1950 3/4-ton has it's original 216. I woke this truck up after a 27 year nap. Still have some work left to get it "on the road" but 216 runs great. smile
