Over the years here, I see less folks running the old 216 in their trucks.
I would like to find out who else here runs stock 216's and drivelines in their truck or car.
My 216 runs like a champ.
Who else has got one?

(just wish the truck did right now). Other than a fairly rapid cylinder wall wear rate, these engines are bullet proof....and replacement engines can be picked up for next to nothing. I love em'

The cylinders have sleeves in them and I have insert bearings now. Good and strong, but with stock gears and driveline, I run slow. But since I am retired, who's in a hurry! I do plan on installing a 235 this year but will not retire the 216. Instead it will go into another vehicle that is driven locally instead of cross country as the 3800 does when the need arises.

The engine runs great, like a sewing machine. If it ever blows up (doubt it) I would probably replace it with another if I could find one near by. | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,112 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,112 | I rebuilt my original 216, two years ago. When the truck is finished, that is what I will be using. I must say thatthere was very little cylinder wear at 78,000 miles. I did however convert the rods to inserts. here are some shots of my project along the way: http://community.webshots.com/user/fnixon1 | | | | Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 1,867 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 1,867 | Mines got it! And shes runnin strong at about 60K miles to! Never rebuilt. Who needs 235 ci's when all the 216's are out there to kick their butts. | | | | Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 1,682 Extreme Gabster | Extreme Gabster Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 1,682 | stock 216 in the '46 1/2 ton, and stock 235 in the 2 ton.. haven't given me any problems untill recently, when the 1/2 ton didn't wanna start for a bit.. but that's probably all my fault, anyway.
Fired right up today every time I hit the stomp start, and purred like a kitten.
Still seriously considering going with a newer rear and an "open" drive line.. but so long as she keeps running nice, i'll keep it.
If I ever do have to replace the engine, i'll go with a later full pressure 235, or maybe a 261.
an idea is only stupid if you think about it rationally.
