AD stands for Advance Design?!?! What is so advanced compared to non-AD? Forgive me, I'm new to this.

Thanks,
Tom

The 1947 second series through the 1955 first series were the "Advance Design" Chevy Trucks.

Tom, there was a quantum leap from the 46 to the later 47 AD truck. First and foremost (in my opinion) was getting rid of the %#$!! four piece hood which was just good for crashing down at inopportune times as well as chipping the paint. To this add door weather stripping, two windshield wipers, a stationary windshield that didn't keep the top of your pants leg wet, an out of the way parking brake, a sloped windshield and aerodynamic front sheet metal with the headlights incorporated into the fender, and after the first year the shift lever being on the column as a three speed option and you can see the truck really did have an advanced design. All that being said I wouldn't trade my 46 panel for any of them.

I believe that was the name that Chevy gave to those trucks--because of all the items Evan mentioned, and probably more.
So, as oldcarandtrucknut stated-it was a marketing gimmick!

Tom, I see you have a 62 bubbletop. One of my favorite cars. As you can see I've got a few cars. There are two cars I want. A 62 bubbletop and a 63 Buick Riv.

It was a marketing name. GMC called the same trucks "New Design" models. The '55.2-'59 trucks were called "Task Force" by Chebby, and "Blue Chip" by GMC.

There is a page -- on this very site -- that has all of the marketing names of the various series.

Here is a link to it.

It is important to note that the "Victory" series is also referred to as "Art Deco".
