I got my issues delt with between my camera, PC and I. Here is my new hobby/moneypit. It is a 1940, but with a 39' top grill peice. PO said that is how he bought it but was told by an uncle who had worked on an assembly line that in those days sometimes they had to use whatever parts they had on hand at that time. I would like to locate and install the appropriate grill peice.
The truck was built in Saskatoon Saskatchewan. Apparently this was the last year they assembled trucks in that plant, after that they were building equipment for the military. 1940 chev

Wow, looks great! Chris Van Allsburg of Polar Express fame wrote a book called The Stranger and it has a few drawings of a truck that reminds me of yours. It should be in most big bookstores if you get tired of reading Hemmings.

As my 12-year old would say; "Shweeeeet" Good looking truck. I'd also vote for leaving the top grill piece the way it is if that's the way it came from the factory. That's what makes it unique and provides some history to it.

Thank-you everyone for encouraging me to keep the grill as is, I will. The truck is bone stock aside from the 12 yr old dark teal green paint. It even came with small dings inside the box from the original owner who had a plumbing business around Stettler Alberta and this was his work truck till 1965.
Pictures were taken on Nov. 12/05. The rear end and 4 speed transmission are original. The engine has been rebuilt about 1000 miles ago, 12 years ago. It has been a garage queen. Whatever I do to it, I would do so that it could be put back to original. [I will be keeping and storing all the original parts.] This would be brakes [possibly front discs], as two wheel cyl's. are leaking from the truck sitting so long. I would also like to change to an open driveline, with a higher geared differential and a transmission with syncros. Radial tires are also on the list. My wife wants to drive it also.

It would be a whole lot cheaper if you got your wife her own truck. I dig that truck just the way it is-crashbox and all. It's got plenty of CHHARACTER!!!!!!!
The reworking of alll of those items will be a major undertaking and in my opinion will diminish the value of the vehicle. How many people can drive a crashbox nicely? Along with the foot stomper, you have a built in theft deterrent stem! Disc brakes will require new wheels, backing plates, Master cylinder. the new tranny will require lots more work. The open driveline will be too wide in the rear and look goofy. (I'm gonna hear it for that one!) Throw out all those friggin' magazines that say you MUST change this and get rid of that! Do you really want to drive 80 on the freeway with that truck? Call Patricks and get a 3.55 ring and pinion set and redo the entire original brake system.
And if you don't get another truck for your wife, then teach her how to drive this one. She'll then be able to drive anything on the road! You have new trucks to listen to music in and drink coffee in and pass everything in sight in. Have some fun with this one! (All those who were offended by this post, please accept my apologies!)

Thanks for the compliments everyone. I wish I could take the credit for how the old truck looks but thats one of the reasons I bought it on the spot, the body work and paint is far better than I could ever do right now, due to lack of skill and time. It is almost scary to drive for fear of rock chips but I will get over it. I know the chips will come.

I appreciate your advice and keeping it the way it is, isn't out of the question since doing the things that I mentioned takes time and although working on the truck is part of the fun of owning it, I would also like to be driving it and receive all the thumbs up that all you other bolters get.
The things that I am working on right now are straightening, polishing and welding the grill back together, some hood alignment issues and rebuilding the vacuum wiper motors which I will have pictures of later on.

That is a beautiful Bolt. I bought my wife a nice 1954 Plymouth Savoy so that she can drive it and wave at me as I drive by in my 1959 Apache.
She says that she will stay away from my Chevy If I stay clear of her MOPAR. I said deal. However when anything breaks on the Plymouth guess who has to fix it?
