on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 14 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 14 | I have a '64 Chevy stepside that has been in my wifes family since it was new. It has a 230 and a powerglide. I think it has 3:73 gears. Anyone know about how many came with this engine/trans combo? I have seen a picture of one other. My father-in-law wants to put in a 355 but the 6 is growing on me. I'm new to the forum and have enjoyed it so far! | | | | | Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 738 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 738 | keep the six...everybody and their toothless brother has a v-8. i think that the six is the best part about these old trucks. my 61 has a 235 in it and i hated it when i got it but the more i work and tinker with it the more i like it, it has a lot of character. not to mention the fact that not a lot of people are driving inline sixes around these days, and the pollutant police cant ride my a$$ for driving a gas hog planet destroyer. i like the straight six, just my $.02

It has a pertronix ignition which helps. We have a '60 on our farm that has been running for about 20yrs on the 235. It spun a bearing and my father in law just swapped it out. Has run that way for at least 11yrs. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 3,439 Moderator - The Electrical Bay | | Moderator - The Electrical Bay Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 3,439 | HAY... I personally don't see any real advantage to swapping it out for a V8, unless your 6 blows up and you just happen to have a running V8 laying around.. or your building some sort of hot rod.
an idea is only stupid if you think about it rationally.
