What engine/driveline did you wind up using?
-W | | | | | Joined: Jun 2003 Posts: 331 Member | | Member Joined: Jun 2003 Posts: 331 | W Yes I am very happy with the way it turned out.I think that in the spring I will end up putting some flatdeck sides on that will be hinged, so that I can just drop the sides down to haul things. I ended up using a 76 army issue chevy 1 1/4 ton 4x4 frame. I also went with a brand new 350 crate engine from GM it has 330 horse and 380 ft pounds of torque. When you step on the gas she really gets up and goes. I am a roofing sub contractor. When I pull up to a job site people tell me I am crazy to use my truck for work. I was going to buy a new truck but all of that computer bs is going to cost a lot of money to fix later down the road, plus I can work on my own vehicle

You get to drive a beautiful old stovebolt to work every day, and every penny you save is TAX DEDUCTIBLE! For a self-employed guy, 15.3% FICA and MCARE plus 25% tax bracket means that every $100 dollars you spend on the truck saves you $40 in tax! You are absolutely right. All parts are a 100% right off. With fuel being a right off too. It makes it a lot easier to put 94 octane fuel in when you look at it that way.

I thought of that when I built the truck and had the bottom of the cab, inner fenders, fender skirts, under the hood and running boards all sprayed with linex truck bed liner, so I'm good to go. When my wife encouraged me to buy the '59 fleetside, we figured on using it for work for the same reasons stated before, but I'm working too much to get the time to make it reliable enough as my jobs are sometimes 120 miles away, but when I get it done our business name will be on the door (magnetic sign, of course)-can you say advertising expense!!
