Hey Guys,
I'm in the middle of my frame off on my 52 1/2 ton.Can anyone give the name and model of a shock that I can go to the local part store with? I know I can order shocks for it but usually you don't know what your getting brand wise. Is there a modern replacement for our shocks? Thx.

GEC52: I do not know (I'm honest) about 51 1/2 but my 59 because of the post pins (bolts thru top and bottom) my local tire shop couldn't get them. So I ordered off of Brothers and suprize I got Delco shocks, pins, the whole works. Look really nice especially w/ polished stainless nuts and washers I added. popcorn The Truth is Out There (Good Luck)

Someone here at the bolt, has a NAPA equivilant part number list. I have it buried in my pc and will forward it to you once found...

Along with NAPA, another place you can try is CarQuest....No Kiddin...The regional distribution center is in Lakeville...I-35 south to Co Rd 70. Go east (left) 2 miles to Grenada Ave. Place is on the South East Corner. Call em. They have had EVERY part I have asked for for my 46 1/2 ton. The guys at the store attached to the warehouse are patient and a good bunch. No, I'm not advertising...just telling another bolter what worked for me. If you need a part in a hurry, this is the place to get it "south of the river". The warehouse is obviously HUGE..sort of like bolters heaven. They are a little pricey though...

I found the link that I had saved in my laptop,tried to connect but the link but is now disconnected. I remember a fellow bolter who had this extensive list of NAPA numbers equivilant to other brand names. It was posted by looks like some history has been archieved. If I do find it, I'll let everyone know.

Decided to expand my search here on the bolt including the lounge and found it. The original posted link is disconnected but I did find my way to the newer link. Though this list is based upon GMC, I assume most would also work on Chevy.

I could have just measured the shocks, but finding someone to help go through the books at an auto parts place is getting increasingly harder to find.

Within the last month I went to my local Auto Zone up the street a few blocks and bought a set of front shocks for a 1952 Chevrolet 1/2 ton pick-up. They were Gabriel Red Ryder gas shocks. They look great. The guy put 1952 Chevrolet 1/2 ton pickup in the computer and bam - there they were! They had pins at the top and the bottom. I didn't check on the backs, but I bet he has them.

Hey 6cylinders, what did AZone charge for that set of shocks? Need a set for my '52 1/2 ton.

Cost was a reasonable $9.99 per set!

It looks like the same shock (81270) was used on all 1/2 ton Chevrolet trucks between 1950 and 1955-1st.

Does anyone have links for other vendor's cross-lists?

Hey gang...bad news! I bought shocks for the front of my 54 (Red Ryder Gassers) and asked for rear shocks as well. Their computer didn't show rear shocks for a 54 1/2 ton. I still need em and will probably go back in the near future and see what we can work out.

Bruce, I got rears for mine by asking for shocks from a GMC. They are the same, the parts database just doesn't have them listed. If I remembered the part number I would give it out. I got them from AutoZone.

I went back today to that same Auto Zone store and asked for 1952 Cheveolet 1/2 ton pickup REAR shocks. They could not come up with a set. Finally I told him that mine had a pin at the top and shackle mount at the bottom. He went to the back and came out with a set of Gabriel Gas Ryder shocks. They printed out on the cash register ticket as Classic Shocks. The number is: 82066. I installed them about two hours ago. They fit and work fine.
By the way, the part number on the front shocks is: 81270

Just a hint that might help someone. Recently went to Auto Zone for shocks for my '61 Apache. They had fronts, but no rears. Checked with Discount/Advance, they had rears, but no fronts. Go figure.
