The truck I bought has a mickey mouse set up where he drilled a hole in the bed on the passenger side. Did Chevy make dimpled fenders for the 3/4 ton? Since the bed is already longer maybe they didn't come with the special fender. My 49 3/4 ton truck has the regular fender and the tire fits perfectly. Also was it a option to which side of the truck it's suppose to be on?

I'm not sure when they started the dimpled fender for the shortbeds.. my '50 3100 dosen't have a dimple.. I think the spare was supposed to go under the bed maybe?

Before 53, all spares went under the bed. The optional spare mount was introduced in 53, and was on the driver's side.
The bed side panel changed in 54 from an angle top to the square top. Because of that, the side carrier mounts do not interchange without some modification.

| | | | | Joined: Jun 2000 Posts: 454 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2000 Posts: 454 | Additionally, because the 53 1/2 tons used 6 lug wheels and the 53 3/4 tons used 8 lug wheels, the lug positioning on the side spare mount is different. You can't use the 1/2 ton mount with a 3/4 ton wheel and vice-versa.

The one I'm looking at is mounted on the driver side of the truck where the tire would mount and is triangular in shape vs. the square shape that Fred mentioned.

I thought the 1/2 ton were the same shape, but I could be wrong. Unless I'm mistaken, I think the Factory Assembly Manual has the different lug spacing distances for the different wheel patterns.
