The 3/4 ton did not have the dimpled fender, there is enough room for the spare without it. Before 53, all spares went under the bed. The optional spare mount was introduced in 53, and was on the driver's side.
The bed side panel changed in 54 from an angle top to the square top. Because of that, the side carrier mounts do not interchange without some modification.
