Thanks, Red! I had a feeling it might be a '67, but my knowledge of those trucks is just about nothing.

It's supposed to be a true IRWIPI with a title, and other than being full o' junk, appears to be rock solid w/ original paint.

The price is dirt cheap.. i'm thinking of buying it to put up on eBay.. anybody know if these things are even remotely desirable?

They are desirable. You are now to the cricial point if your wife lets you drag it home your collection has gone from "those trucks" to "all those trucks" and henceforth you will have little worry about when you come up on a good deal. luck you have enough ground to park them on. Keep trying maybe this one is the one your wife will want for hers.

You talking about the one in Gering just down the road from the sugar plant? I drive by there just about every day, but i've not been in there, always seem to end up at Autozone!

The '67 in the picture is one of a bunch of trucks i'm working on a deal with, mainly to help beef up my "play fund/buy truck parts" fund.. the wife dosen't mind if I drag stuff home, so long as it gets drug back out with more money than I paid for it left in it's place.

In the deal is several AD trucks of various sizes (and in various states of condition but none in running condition) as well as an old GMC "Task Force" shaped truck and at least three of those later 60's Chevys.

Nebraska must be just overloaded with good old Chevy Iron. My 48 came from Kearny. The PO hauled it to Garden City Kansas where I met him and picked it up. He wouldnt even let me pay for his fuel. Good guy. Thats a great looking 67. I always regret selling my 68. I had it all through highschool and it just sit while I was in college. I finally traded it to my brother for a TIG welder and he painted it and sold it. The 68 had a hot 327 with a granny 4 speed from a 1 ton and 4.10 rears. Oh Well.

It is a 1968 Chevrolet because it has a large back window. 1967 Chevrolets had a small back window.

I had a '67 small back window. I thought it was the ugliest truck I ever owned, but some people like them so beauty is in the eye of the beholder. This has to be a '68 or '69 with the big back window.

It's a '67. Like the 60-66 series of trucks before it,(and the task force trucks, also) they were available with the large back window as an option. In '68 the Federal gov't mandated all light duty trucks to have large back window, and side marker lights on the fenders. The lack of side markers, and that grill used only in '67-'68 make this truck a '67.

actually 67's had the small window standard, big window optional as deluxe cab - 68 started big window standard, and while the front ends are quite the same [not 69 for sure], the 68's had marker lights on the fenders, 67 didn't - that one don't

I still say it's a 68 because by the picture it looks like the front clip has been replaced. It might be a 67 front clip but it could be a 68,69,70,71,or 72 Cab and Bed. How many 67 large window cab trucks do you see?? Very few!

and you'd still be wrong! grin
looks like the front clip has been replaced?
same color as the rest of the truck, same 'patina', deluxe chrome around the wheels wells and windshield to match the deluxe big window cab - "very few" doesn't mean none - approx 3% of the 67's were "Custom Sport Truck" optioned, including the 'panoramic window' or 'full view' option, and that could be ordered outside the package
how many 67's have you seen w/ the bed wood, how many w/ steel? grin I've had both

'67, definitely. I've had three '67 Chevys, one '67 GMC, and one '67 GMC Suburban. All of these but one were big back window trucks and not re-cabbed. In 1968, ALL cars and trucks sold new in the US had to have sidemarkers. Yacht, I disagree on the back window being a Federal requirement, I've got a '69 Dodge D100 parts truck w/small back window. I've looked thru the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard list and don't see anything about the size of the rear cab window mentioned anywhere.

Well this turned into a real debate, didn't it!

I'm going out there tomorrow to clean out all the junk and take some pictures of it, along with a few others.. i'll get the VIN and maybe we can figure out for sure.

I went out today to collect the truck, but the guy has a load of junk in the bed and cab.. I offered to take it the way it was, but he'd afraid there might be something good in there, so he's going to have his buddy help him unload it all into a shed.

If it helps, it says "DELUXE" on the drivers side door, right below the window.. seemed like an odd place to put a badge from the factory.

Gord, those quad mirrors almost look like dual spotlights beside the addon west coasters - yes rare! grin

Fumblin, that trim on the door [correct placement] makes it a "CST", or Custom Sport Truck option [should be on both doors], which would fer starters be a big window, also had that trim down the side 'feature line', and chrome bumpers, as well as widgets like cig liter, bright trim on dash and gas pedal, fancy carpet and seat - lower production, so worth more, if yer puttin it on e-bay grin

I got the thing home today.. it's got a V8 in it.. thats about as far as I got.

Going to take some more pics and look at it a little closer this afternoon, then probably put it up on eBay soon to help raise some cash for improvements to the '50...

...altho, I have to admit.. driving behind it while it was on the trailor, I couldn't help but get the urge to keep it and fix it up.. lol.. but my heart is really in the '41 thru '50 models.

Well it's officially a 1967 truck, according to the title and registration, that match the VIN on the truck.

"custom" logo on both doors, and two spotlights.. a red one on the drivers side, and a clear one on the passenger side.

Were turn signals optional equipment in '67? Theres one of those aftermarket turn signal deals that you often see in the '40's and '50's trucks.. maybe that was just slapped on because the stock "in column" one was busted off?

No key, so I guess i'm going to have to pop the wires off the back of the ignition and "hot wire" it.. anybody know off the top of their head which wires to short and which one to momentarally tap onto the shorted wires?

Here are some "tall grass free" pics..

turn sig's shoulda been standard on a CST fer sure -might have given up, and the PO had the clamp-on unit handy - looks like a pretty good truck, oughta fetch a few bucks if you do a minimal cleanup, and take the right pics!
if you put a jumper from the batt + to the coil + and put yer jumper cables right to the starter [dark green I think] and ground, it should crank and run

I've owned several of these trucks, 67/72, and always thought the 67's ALL had small back windows. Things change in old trucks, including the titles, id plates, etc. I'd bet it's not a 67.

So it's more reasonable to assume somebody pop-rivited a new vin plate to this truck and glued "custom" badges on the doors than to assume that, as Red58 suggested, that the big window was a custom option, and this is probably factory?

sure Fumblin grin grin that farmer who put the truck out to pasture wanted folks to think he had a classy farm!

the main thing that never changes in old trucks, is many figure if they've never heard or seen something, it must not exist grin the reason the lotteries and casino's make so much money is so many folks "bet" what they "always thought"! I've had several 67-72 trucks as well, and for some reason never thought the small windows were that way cuz the big widow wasn't offered - guess that's cuz I know GM started thinkin about limited rear visibility in the AD series, w/ the 5 window - ever seen a task force 5 window, Ron? I'll bet you'd think "they don\'t exist" grin

after this thread there's no reason for any of the 7500+ folks signed on to think 67's never had big back windows [or that TF years didn't have 5 windows] - what we need here is a 'tech tip' on minor, seldom discussed changes and when they started

Just for the record, that 5 window TF "Chevy" has a GMC dash.

yeah Cletis - they were all GMC's - bigger trucks, not pickups - why I didn't call it a Chev, but that site has it under "Chevy oddities" - actually I guess it's technically not even a "Task Force" model - what'd GMC call their 5-9's?

I know that over the years other parts get swapped.. a '47 might sport a '52 front end, or maybe some resto guy has a title on a junk truck, and a nice truck with no title, and could do the ole "switcharoo".

From all i've read about these "custom" trucks in subsequent research, if this truck were a "switcharoo" truck, the previous owner went thru alot of hassle to make it look like a "custom" just to use it as a beat around farm truck (the floor is full of dried mud from his boots) then when it started using a bit of oil, he parked it and used it for a storage bin for $1 lots he picked up at the auction.

The previous owner bought it from a fireman, who was the original owner, who put the spots on the truck (one of which is red, for whatever reason).

I asked about the age of the truck mostly because I wanted to see what the heck the thing was worth before I bought it without really nosing around too much into it, or seeming too intrested in it to the seller, not because I suspected foul play or the ole "switcharoo".

But I don't blame folks for being aprehensive about less than common factory configurations, and it's good to get opinions from both sides of the isle.

I looked at an original '58 Chevrolet LCF Low Cab Forward Task Force Truck, several years ago, that had been special ordered, with that 5 window GMC Cab when new. So anythings possible.

I did a search for '67 Chevy Custom and found another in '67 with a big back window:

I suspect that the chrome bumper and white paint on the roof were part of the CST package too. In 67 the script on the door was "custom" and in 68 the script was "CST". Interesting that the "custom" was the high end trim package in the 60's. Post 72 the "custom deluxe" was the base package.

Lots of strange things happen at the factory. My Chev that I bought new in 1980 has a GMC steering wheel. The dealer told me he has seen Chevs come from the factory with GMC tailgates.

It's a 67 with a big glass in it,which is a little more rare,not sure how much.

68 had a chrome strip around the grille like this.
