Here's an interesting bit of old truck mystery..

The other day, I was having a hard time getting my truck to start.. and I noticed that turning the key to the "on" position didn't make the gas gauge needle rise.

I turned the heater blower switch on, and nothing.. then I tapped the instrument gauge with my finger.. tap tap.. and the blower kicked on, and the gauges all rose!

I hit the foot start and VROOM off she went!

So now when I get in the truck, I hit the blower switch.. if the blower dosent run, then I tap the instrument gauge glass twice.. tap tap.. and the blower kicks on, then I fire it up.

My guess is I have a bad/loose contact on the back of the gauge cluster, but it sure is a cool "Fonzie" way to start the truck!

Having been through that same problem, I would say you probably have the problem solved. Loose connection on the back of the ammeter.

Good luck,
Joe
