Any thoughts on changing from vaccuum to electric? My truck is still 6v. Thanks

Unbelieveable results. Yes the electric will not change in speed when you tromp on the pedal or climbing a grade, but the vacumm works just fine with me and its a great talk piece.
I'm sure I would probably change to electric if I lived in an area like the great northwest where it rains all the time. But here in the SF Bay Area it doesn't rain too much and I try to refrain from driving the truck in the dead of winter on a daily basis (like I am now).

Dead of winter in SF is like, what? 80? The wipers in both my '46 and '50 are shot.. I imagine one of these days i'll get to workin' on 'em.
an idea is only stupid if you think about it rationally.

I was also thinking about switching to 6v wipers. Switching to 12v appears kind of spendy. Any suggestions. | | | | | Joined: May 2003 Posts: 1,271 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2003 Posts: 1,271 | I switched to electric ... couldn't be more satisfied!

Love em. Nobody will know cause ya can't see the original vacuum motor anyway. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 926 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 926 | I get pretty good results on the vacuum wipers by pulling the motor apart, cleaning everything up,and wiping the blades down with vaseline. Also get a vacuum tank from a big old Cadillac or something like that from the 60's;you can even plumb two of 'em together. If you can score a 2 stage fuel pump,so much the better. Then you can drive all day in the pouring rain and never have a problem. This combination has worked on my '49 Chevy sedan,'51 Ford F-5,'53 Chevy 3100,and '53 GMC half ton.And I didn't have to buy any new parts. What I like the most about vacuum wipers is they're variable speed, not just multi-speed. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 153 Member | | Member Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 153 | i 2 have the vaccum wipers and love 'em! they're part and parcel of the reason i have a 53gmc in the first place. i wanted the exact opposite of my computerized, power everything, completely dependable, smooth-riding, import! :-) tony

He doesn't generally answer his phone, doesn't return emails, and has no answering device to leave messages on. Very frustrating doing business with him. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2003 Posts: 608 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2003 Posts: 608 | guys was gonna post the site for Rob Ficken/Fickens wiper svc but sombody else did.if your havin a prob, there,s probably a reason. No i,m not involved with rob but he,s only about 4miles east of me on The Island and i can drop on in and say hello IN PERSON.
