It turned out real nice , needs very little glaze and will be fine.It was pretty interesting , they had these huge vats that they can leave a whole car in for several days to remove the paint and bondo etc... ,then they put it in another to kill all the rust and it does not harm the metal, the process takes around two weeks, pretty cool. The one thing that scares me though is that after they phosphate they rinse with water. Now this can be a problem later down the road if the shop dosn't have a proper drying room as moisture can hide out between metal laps. I had everything but my cab dipped on my 46.This was sripped down by hand to bare metal and then metal treated wich had to be rinsed with water. A cab will run about $500 and each seperate piece is $95... Door—$95, hood—$95, fenders—$95... $1000 should about cover the cab, and another $400 for the bed. Worth every penny. If I don't find a place close to home to get this done I would hate to spend the money for this and then have to trailer it home several hundred miles before priming it. I think I would prefer to find a body shop nearby to get it primered, and then trailer it home.

Paint, bondo, seam sealer, undercoating will all turn to ash. The dipping process removes the rust, not the paint... When I trailered the porsche body home last spring, it rained like an SOB... I wiped down the body with dilute phosphoric acid(JASCO) to remove the "flash" rust, and then heated the seams with a heat gun to remove the moisture. I've never had a problem with blistering or "acid" leaching out from the seams to ruin a paint job.

Without DP90 I believe it was $135.00 and it has a coating on it that will get you home.As long as it is inside it will be fine when you store it at home.They said that you just wash the coating off and prime. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 142 Member | | Member Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 142 | Oh I forgot to mention, I was curious how much my 72 burb would cost ,it would be $2500.00 , which does not seem too bad as big as it is and as many nook and crannys it has. Yeah, I'll save money by media blasting it myself, but it is a miserable job and you end up with lead-based paint dust floating around the yard. Besides, blasting only removes paint, rust and, with a bit of effort, bondo. And only in the area you can reach. Seam sealer and undercoating will require a different, yet equally miserable job. Dipping is the best way to go...
