OK, now all y'all know there are always questions about this's 'n' that's of a technical nature, and we just have a couple of discussions goin' over in the Big Bolts corner about 20" wheels and torquing lug nuts.

(C'mon over and give us some answers!)

Now, here's my thought. Since we all see some of these questions asked more than once (that's a good thing--keeps all the old fellers 'round here on their toes), is there some way we could round up technical information in one place?

No, I'm not tryin' to make more work for ya, John and Peggy, maybe just get everything together in a list with references of where to go.

A table with categories of Engine, Electrical, Transmission, Rear End, Wheels and Hubs, Brakes, etc. with a listing of items under each, like, Valves, adjustment -- intake, exhaust, head bolt torque and pattern, etc.,etc., etc., with links of where to go to find the information online in TSBP or elsewhere (rather than a giant listing that would be a hundred pages long) might do the trick.

Something like this could be a locked entry in the Tech Tips.

Just a thought, maybe a dumb one, I dunno.... I just cain't memorize anything anymore, and I have trouble finding my coffee cup, from time to time. You younger fellers don't suffer such maladies, but be patient.

Why not use the search feature? I've found it very handy. Let it wade through all the BS and pick out the pertinent information.

Good idea, Glenn. We had folks go through and cull good info like that and turn it into tech tips.

And we need more tech tips, especially for the Big Bolts.

Cletis -- good point about the search functionality available in the Forums and the site. And as Peggy says, we get a lot of email asking this or that and we always send 'em to the Search menu first to search for it (also covers the forums), and if they can't find it, then go to the forums and ask. Peggy has been doing a pretty good job asking for lots of details in folks' Gallery Submissions, too.

The Gallery, by the way, is probably an unknown source of tech info, too -- all the folks in there who have sent us the descriptions of all the things they have done to their trucks, and the challenges they have overcome and what not.

But I take exception to your characterization of there being "BS" on this web site. BS??? HERE??? No way, man :p

I don't think people know about the search feature. People sometimes post a question that was discussed just a few days earlier. I think there should be a big "Search" icon next to the "Post Reply" and "Post New Topic" icons!

Search is nice - but well written tech tips get right to it quicker - and with the nature of the net and webapges, they can always be updated without having to have a 'reprint' .

Plus there are several things that wind up getting asking pretty regular - like the head toqure spec botl pattern for a post '55 235 - which I think is a tech tip either here or at inliers.org - cuz I found it and printed it out for my dad...

The main thing is - one day a lot of these old truck guys are gonna kick it - and if the bolt is still here all we'll have is some old posts that may or may not make sense.

Some of the 'in the know' guys don't want to be bothered writing up a tech article or just dont' have time - so some of us coudl pick a topic - ask question - then we turn it into an article - then have then check it and add or re-explain things...

There have been a few guys who have taken some of the "action" on the forum and turned it into a tech tip. That's what we did with the Guest Forum on Chrome . And we'd like to do it on others.

Even when there's a good Gallery submission, with a lot of info or something that looks pretty technical, I usually ASK for a tech tip.

Don't usually get one.

So ... as you can imagine ... we are all for the idea! I still have a few tech tips pending in my stack. I need John to make some sense out of them for me. Others we definitely need some images to go with them.

Having a bigger search feature would be great. We added the search feature to the regular menu bar.

But you guys are in here more than us. Tell us what's a good tech tip when you see it (use the email to a friend link). I'll save it with my others and we'll try to put together a TT from it.

Woog's been real good about putting some together. Gord helped me with one of my "pending ones" last month. Maybe some others would be able to help, too.

More is goot. And with "living documents," they can always be added to or expanded. Ha, look at our Tranny Swap ... part TWO!
