The Gentlemans club I was referring to would be like the cigars and scotch type of place that talks about the days events. But, if you could work out a type of forum you're thinking, I'm there too! As for Iowa's clubs, they don't usually involve a classy tone to they're names, we call them what they are, strip joints. Spent my share of time there too, not since wife number 2 though.

Why do we need special rules or moderators? We're all adults supposedly with a common interest in trucks.But why do some of us like to "start" trouble?Do you walk in a guys house and tell him his wife is a slut?
Maybe because this place is make believe,license is given to act like [censored],so you need moderators to baby sit.

No, we will always need moderators. But the less problems that come up on here, the less rules would be necessary to cover the problems. The more problems, the more rules and the stricter those rules have to be enforced.

I'm fairly new to this site and enjoy it. So far I've enjoyed the links to ebay sites, don't see a problem with things as they are. Some of the forums have no moderator listed but with disapili ne by the users everything seems to be working fine. Thanks to John and Peg and all those who participate. Lot of humor in these post.

I'm pretty happy with the rules the way they are. I suspect that without the prohibition of selling in the forums we would be overrun with hucksters to the point that it would be hard to find a post you wanted to read. I think e-Bay is a good example of this. Look at how much chaff you have to wade through sometimes to find something even in a fairly narrow search. I think the Swap Meet is pretty good for an on line classified. I have bought and sold a little bit on it, but it never will compete with e-Bay because of the sheer size of e-Bay. Still, I can think of a few improvements that would be nice to have on the Swap Meet:

1)Integrate the Swap Meet with the forums- same usernames and passwords

2) Add sub-classifications such as year and type of parts to speed searching.

3) larger images or the ability to display off-site images.

I'm sure this is much easier (and cheaper) said than done. For what it costs to use, I'm quite satisfied with it the way it is.

I've never felt the need to come here and try and advertise my e-Bay auctions here, but maybe next batch of truck parts I list will have "Stovebolt" in the title. Now if we all did that, all our fellow e-Bay junkies here on the Stovebolt Page could do a simple word search and find what their fellow Stovebolters had on auction.

Just a very few here know much about trucks or want to know much about trucks....they got bored and want to steam in with something they do know about

It was stated a few months ago ...... when this place was reborn that it was just for truck talk.....some got bored that lasted a few weeks That marked the end of the fix....people started pushing Tony and eachother

This was a place of discussing,respect,and therefore...... fun

I dont see the problem.. there are not that many ebay posts here, and most of them are interesting in (at least to me) in one way or another.... especially when someone makes a mistake or overprices the item and everyone points it out.

And as someone previously pointed out, if a member is consistently posting his own or "his buddys" auctions, it will be noted and dealt with.

This is just my opinion, Tony is still sleeping and for that matter, he doesn't speak for me. I think, since the no politics and religion, I have started reading every post lately and have found Stovebolt very interesting and relaxing. Information even a woman can understand. The stories keep me coming back. The way it was before, I would not even go to the lounge. Boring opinions and stuff I didn't have any idea of what they where talking about.
Why not leave things the way they are. Make ALL off topic , like sports,kids , Christmas shopping , etc, go the"Hey Joker". Tony could even call it "Off Topic Only" post. That way we are still all in the same "room" so to speak. It's just that we don't have to go there if we don't want to. If someone posts a joke or story that is untruck related, Tony can delete it and send it to "Off Topic Only" section. Simple and already set up.
As far as Ebay goes, if I found something on Ebay that I wanted, I would be mad as hell if all 5000 Stovebolter saw it and wanted to bid. Some ebay "scams" and outrageous items are fun to see, I say post items that you think would be of interest, just don't post your own.
The SwapMeet has worked great for a lot of guys. If you would just take the time to see how it works. You must have a separate username and password for that site. If you want to find an item, just use the search for the guys name or the item you want. Simple.
I say, let's back up and use what we have and make it better. Everything will be black and white, simple and truck related or if not, go to Off Topic Only for a joke or personal discussion.

i've stayed outta this-especially since i'm the nasty old critter that started the wal mart thing. the truth is, after thinking about it, this is the first year of my life i won't have a father sitting at the head of the table, and the whole thing is out of whack----that said.

some of you guys i have had the distinct pleasure to personally meet. some of you i've conversed with on the phone. i figure we did this because we had a common interest, and from the bolt page that interest turned into friendships. hard to do when the joint is so sterile that we can't read each other's personality.

i've been here since barry was the moderator, and really guys, he did one hell of a job. things got alittle out of whack, and then alot out of whack after that. now, thanks to the general and trucked up, i guess things are getting back into ---uhhhhhhhh----whack.

the crap that comes from religion and politics nearly shredded the website. i can understand dad and the little general getting frustrated. hell they were sponsoring a barfight in a trailer park with retarded people. not the intended use of the site i'm thinkin'. maybe somebody can see from the past what works, and what don't. the simple rule i think is common sense. guys are gonna post off topic, and some of us with a stick inserted vertically you know where are gonna scream.

i figure this entire website is posted for information, but somewhere in the mix it was intended for friendship, family, and pure enjoyment.

and yeah-the swap meet ought to be separate.

and yeah, a special place for truck related e-bay stuff ain't a bad idea.

and by the way-----joy-joy does a pretty good job.

time to go yank the christmas post.

Guys I will support anything that is decided E-Bay post those are good, helpful and funny. I like the truck post also even tho I know I not one of the smartest fish in the barrel I try to help when I can. I really like the Hey Joker or a place where we can be us, as in gentlemen or gentle ladies, talk about most anything except Politics or Religion. (Which I would talk religion if e-mailed).

My escape from life is this forum you all know that. Look at the GREAT support we give when one of us need it. Do we stop that I sure in the "H" hope not. As said lets just be good people and use some common sense. Ben

darn I've found myself agreeing with Oly once or twice in the past.....well maybe once. But Agreeing with (((M))) too many times is not healthy....mentally. The funniest one in the ole days I saw here was not the Malasian Mahoganey furniture ads but when I saw the post for "are there any hot women out there?" Yeah Right! at a site with a bunch of wiskey drinkin, 3 day beard growth, dirty finger nailed, bad attitude grease monkies!

From the sound of this discussion (Yeah! I realize that there is no "sound!") I'm figgerin' there's folks out there that are missin' the cigars and beer.

For those who don't know, cigars and beer are available to those who are mature enough to handle cigars and beer responsibly. That judgement is always the purvey of someone other than the user. Get over it!

If ya want to have a tailgate party (maybe that is my suggestion for a name--Tailgaters--but watch out for the Louisiana hawnyocks--'gators are unpredictable), ya gotta be mature enough to handle a tailgate party.

A while back, I was working part time at an Chief auto store, before they were bought out by autozone. Two greasy women walk in with a starter with a bunch wires still connected to it. They wanted to exchange the starter for a new one. One of them asked me to cut off a piece of wire, so i hollered at the other guy that worked there, to bring me a pair of dikes.. the ladies looked at each other and smiled. I took care of business and they left. The other guy comes out from the aisles laughing like crazy, I asked what was so funny? He replies, You asked for a pair of dikes, and they were standing right in front of you... DING... it then dawned on me that they were indeed a bit on the happy side.
