The spindle dust caps are too long on my 53 Chevy for Smoothie hub caps.
Any ideas on a good fix or workable replacement.

Thanks, Kelly

Run down to the nearest hardware store and pick up a dust-cap-adjuster. It should be in the hammer section. I think the 5-lb model should be perfect.

Vigorously apply the heavy end of the adjuster to the cap. Test for fit, and repeat as required.

Oh, and welcome to the Stovebolt! With luck someone else will happen along with an answer you like better than mine...

Thanks,
Yes my truck's a rusty red 5 window 3100.
The Smoothie hub caps go on ok if the dust cap is off.

Maybe you could pull one off and take it shopping. The local Schucks has dust caps hanging on a display, and that would allow you to compare the size.

Unless your dust caps are unusually tall, I'm not sure that you'll find many options. However, GM used the same diameter on lots of vechles over the years, so perhaps you can identify one with real short caps?

Are they too long because the spindle requires them to be that size? You could fabricate your own with exhaust pipe tubing and weld a plate/cap on the end.

I agree with OldSub pull one off and go down to your FLAPS and compare some and see if you can find a smaller one. I know I've seen some rubber ones for trailers maybe if those would fit then they would squash enough to get your caps on.
