For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 115 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2001 Posts: 115 | My buddy from here has 1942 Chevy 3/4 ton truck. It does not have the original rear end. It fits very well, still 6 lug, and has a stabilizer built in. It is the nicest driving old truck I have driven in a long while and I attribute part of that to the raio in the rear end. I would sure like to know what it is out of? I will go figure out the ratio in the next week or so. Here are a few pictures- http://community.webshots.com/album/547621393NkIufX Any idea what it is from?

What engine is he running, the stock 6? Still the stock tranny? What kind of top speed is he getting?
I ask, because in the future, i'd like to swap rear ends eventually to get a little better top end speed.. but I really love my 216 and the reverse lockout on the 4 speed stock tranny.
Silly I know, but if I can get a little better highway speeds (in the 60MPH range) i'd rather keep the stock motor and swich to a 4 speed with an open driveshaft (like out of a 3/4 ton) and just swap out the rear.
So i'm pretty curious as to what your buddies truck has for a back end, too!
an idea is only stupid if you think about it rationally.

It cuises easily at 60 with low rpm's. No problems on hills either. I had the truck up to 70 (I hope Robert is not reading this). I do not have plans for the bed. It was homemade before I got the truck. It was nice having the boxes on the flatbged. Looked good too.
