One night about 3 weeks ago I was up at 5:30 with my 11 month old son and I saw a guy walking his dog through my neighbor's yard so I'm guessing that's the guy.
Being that I stepped in a pile of the crap yesterday while mowing the yard, and narrowly missed another, I don't want my young children in this crap while playing outside.
There are two ways I can go about handling this. The first is to get up early and wait the person out, confront him and tell him I don't want to catch him or his mutt on my lawn anymore. That type of confrontation is not difficult for me to do, believe me. But with our children having odd sleeping hours every minute of sleep my wife and I can get is priceless. I'll be more than happy to confront this coward and just tell him not to do it anymore. Before I lose sleep waiting on this guy I'd rather try my other approach. That is to put something out in my lawn that would absolutely fry his dog's snoozer. Anybody know of something that would make his dog never want to set foot on my lawn again, yet will not attract insects? Gimme suggestions please.

How much you leave depends on how quick you want the dog to die...or not die...this isn't an exact science....we are dealing with DOG

If that doesn't work, try mouse traps, they're cheap and trust me they work. Dogs usually go near the same spot. I use to put them around the bird feeders under the leaves to keep the cats away. If you don't like punishing the dog, I like the sprinkler system, get two, one for the dog and one for the dog owner! | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 687 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 687 | A rat (not mouse) trap might send a strong message, ya think? Or the pepper thing might work too - I'm thinking strong pepper like chilli or cayenne. A real shnozzle cooker! At least I could use the leftover pepper. Would have no use for the rat trap (I hope). -ftyler | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 2,893 Socket Breaker | | Socket Breaker Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 2,893 | A bigger dog. Say an anatolian(ms?) shepard, that is a 'very' territorial dog. 'smIrk'. I'm with Fatfenders... I've been having a similiar problem over this way. good luck Fred. -W | | | | | Joined: Jun 2000 Posts: 738 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2000 Posts: 738 | The problem with hot pepper and rat traps is that your child might get into them somehow. Signs and sprinklers sound good to me. I have noticed that people let their dog lose at night to take a leak. Are you sure it isn't a neighbor dog going "next door" to poop? My own dogs use to just go in next field where the lawn stopped. They don't like poooing in their own yard. If you could only catch the owner or the dog, than you would know for sure who it is. Fred, I have a bucketfull of Jalapenos I grew this year. I've made tons of Hot Pepper relish and Hot pepper jelly. My hands are still burning this morning and I don't dare touch anything I shouldn't I'll send it but I wouldn't want your baby feeling the effects even on your hands!! :eek | | | | | Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 399 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 399 | There are some ultra sonic dog repellent devices. Some are activated by infrared and riven by solar cells. Pretty cheap, won`t hurt the dog to much but keeps him away from your garden. Start here: Repellant Store They even have Coyote urine in bottles (heaven knows how they collect that  ). So you can skip the lion thing in the zoo Yust ask google for a shop in your area. Cost of evidence gathering: About 10 minutes labor with a shovel. Cost of placing evidence in stategic places for the sting: A few hurried minutes late at night! Watching culprit coming in contact with planted evidence in a very undignified manner: PRICELESS!

I've run out of pint-size canning jars, and bought a couple of cases of new ones, and it looks like I'll need more! I pickle them, with garlic added. We like the "Tam" variety, about half the heat of regular Jalapenos. Beans, sliced onions, cornbread, and a handful of peppers, then ice cream for dessert! Jerry

After you know who it is you could take the picture over and ask that he quit, if that doesn't work maybe some of the other above methods from the other bolters will. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 476 Moderator | | Moderator Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 476 | My two cents. Anything that may injure an innocent party could get you sued. (Even a not so innocent party.) If a little kid gets dowsed by your motion activated sprinkler or burned by your pepper, you will be the one with angry neighbors knocking on your door.
I like the game camera. Can you just set your video cam up in a window and put in a long playing tape? Then go knock on the neighbor's door with the proof.

Wife has been bitchin about dog crap in the yard--gotta a soccer mom down the street who brings her dogs down on the leash and lets em poop all over the place--I'm thinkin that squirter may work. Went so far as to check at Home depot for a timer for the hose--got one--I'm thinkin that I'll set the timer for about dusk till 9 in the mornin--squirt all the nocturnal visitors and maybe get the soccer mom too. Some little trespassin kid gets squirted--I ain't gonna worry about it--last I checked automatic sprinklers were legal. Neighbors are already complanin about most everything--squirter just add a little comedy.

Let him know, in a nice way, that you would appreciate it if he would either pick it up or do it somewhere else in the future. This way you might avert a war. Who knows, you might get to know him and like him. My preference would be to find out who he is, catch him doing it, then walk out and hand him a bag to pick it up with. Or put something up that has baggies attached saying "please pick up after yourself..."
What I would probably do if he doesn't get the message is make sure you know who it is, then put a bunch of it on his doorstep. | | |
