I was wondering if anyone has purchased A Universal Gas Tank? I would like to take the tank from inside the truck and install it Under The Bed. On both the 46 and the 37.


If youve purchased one. What company did you use and are you happy with it? If anyone has any photos please send me a few to look at so I can get some ideas on how they have been installed.

The tank in the photo is 205.00 plus shipping for the entire kit. The stainless steel tank is in the $600-700.00 dollar range.

Hello.
I have found that the mustng two tank fits nice between the rails at the very back of truck and the filler can be plumbed wherever, and are readily available at salvage yards for 30 or 40 bucks and new are only a little over a hundred.

Hey Finn,L.D. is right.I've heard the mustangII works good.I had thought about it for my 37 and running the neck up through one of the bed boards or rather make a little trap door to raise and refill. I've seen some that used a recessed stainless still piece with a little "lid" on it. Sort of like the kitchen sink dish drain with a lid on it...understand???? I need one for the 46 and 37 so I guess the 37 would get the Mustang tank if I can locate one from someplace. Then the tank from American Classic Trucks for the 46..

They showed using a PT Cruiser gas cap door on one of the car shows on TV this last weekend. Cut a round hole in the bed wood then used a router to cust a slight recess for the outer piece. That made it fit flush with the wood. Looked pretty nice to me. They come painted or chrome.

LD Davis mentions the Mustang II tank being available new for just over a hundred. Is this referring to an OEM Ford part? Got a part #? Aftermarket? Which supplier? If I can't figure out the best way to mount this '71 Chevelle tank, I may be looking for alternatives.

What's wrong with just leaving it in the cab? Putting it in the rear might be more dangerous if you get rear-ended.

I'd leave it int the cab..as the old trucks are made of steel, not pop cans..If you look at all of the crashes that burned or exploded with the tank in the cab they were the pop can trucks not the real steel ones...

One reason is the smell and fumes inside the truck! Another is the women folk! Some are deathly afraid of A FuelTank Under their buttocks!

This is one reason out of all the reasons in question!

this is great info. I want to move my tank out of the cab too and maybe on my '56 1-ton flatbed behind the rear axle would work well. Any comment? thanks, Frank

I just bought one from yogi's, its a universal poly tank for trucks, only downfall i forsee right now is that it is only 14.5 gallons. I should get it at the end of this week. Ill let yall now how it works out. Was $225 for tank, neck, straps and billet cap.

14.5 gallon would be big enough for me since the gas prices are really high over here..

I used a 70 Mustang tank (new) for about $115 delivered. Mine's a flatbed, so didn't have to screw with fender fill door.

What kind of tank will fit nicely in the rear of a 64? I am going to leave the tank inside on my 53, but on my 64 I would like to move it. Thanks
