I've had my 54 3100 w/235 for 4yrs...never had a cooling problem or any leaks..it's originally a down south hot weather truck..anyway, was fixin to do a cooling system flush and looked at the radiator cap...14#?..everything i see in my books says 4#..anyone have a clue why it all works well with the cap i have, and should i change to a 4#? Sure would appreciate a response, gonna be headed to the parts store for some other things...thanks

My 53 has a presure relief valve in the upper radiator tank facing the engine. I've tried to pressurize the cooling system once with a pump up type of tool and could only get it to four pounds before it would release. I think that's typical. So the cap rating is probably not important.

I don't think that you want to use a 14 lb cap unless the book says so. I was under the impression that the Chev rad did not have the pressure relief valve.

Yup. Stay with a 4# cap, or you could wind up pushing water out of all the wrong places.
