I haven't been around much as of late due to the death of my Father on Sept 25th. My Father decided to end his own life. Why? I know that I will never know. I have some of the pieces of the puzzle but know that there are some that wont ever be found.

I saw the post about letting others/ spouses drive your truck. Well Dad never got to drive or ride in my truck.

I am working on finalizing the details of his estate. So I doubt that I will be around much. I will check in once in a while but don't know how frequently.

I have my moments but I am working to get through this. One of my favorite quotes is, "Today is better then Yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!" Well, that is what we are trying to do, make today better.

Brian, sorry for your loss,if it helps,I lived through the death of both my parents. It's believed my mother took her life when faced with a terminal disease. As far as taking ones own life, you never can know the pain a person suffers unless you're walking in their shoes.
Good luck, hope to see you here again, Tony

Brian,

Sorry to hear it. My dad is in rough shape but has the will power of a 235 six. I took him for a ride in my '47 last summer. Now he is gone for the winter with his truck and camper. I worry about him, but if something happens at least I'll know he was doing what he wanted to be doing.

Hang in there, Brian, I'll offer up a prayer on this end.

Oh Brian, we are so sorry to hear this. I just cannot imagine. We certainly will keep you and your familyin our prayers, also.

You know, Bri, there just might not be an answer to the "why" question. When I get to that point, I just move on ... like you said ... work on your "today."

God bless you.

Brian, three close friends have faced this, one lost a parent, one a child, and one a sister. Remember you are not alone, do your best, and honor those parts of his life that are dear.

Brian,
All our prayers are with you and yours. Just believe that whenever you find yourself driving down the road and you starting think of your father, he is probably riding shotgun with you right then.

Just make sure you take the time to be a large part of your kids life and dreams as it seems your father was a large part of yours.

Lost ones will always be with you in heart and soul.

I know your pain, I had a uncle who was more like a big brother that did the same and we still do not know why and it was 25 years ago. Unfortunately he never got to see my 37 done as he was helping me work on it when he did what he did and it sat for ten years before I started back on it and it took me too long to complete it that my dad died from natural causes before it hit the road but he did see it move on its own power. Just writing this and thinking about what my uncle did still hurts even after so long so this is all I am going to say but I know how you feel.

Thank you to everyone for their thoughts and prayers. Slowly but surely we are moving forward. I have been talking with my brother and wife and couselor. As I go through this process of healing I am learning alot about who I am and who I am not.

Thanks again, not to worry I will be back.

Brian,

I am here with you. My wife fought cancer for over 7 years. She lost her battle last year.

My truck was good for "therapy." My wife never understood what I saw in the truck but did see that there was a lot of enjoyment in it for me.

Now, I need to finish raising our 10 year old son and get the truck back together.

I lost my dad this past January...he didn't get a ride in my "finished" truck. I miss being able to talk with him.

For me, the only thing that helped was time.

Everything will work out in the end. If it hasn't worked out, it's not the end.

It's been just over three years for me. Dad was getting up there in age, this was failing, that was going bad. Even though I knew it was coming and a matter of time, it really hurts. There's hardly a day that goes by that I don't think about him. I'm building my truck as a sort of memorial, as he loved nothing more than to drive around in our 52 pickup. As a kid, I was often embarassed by it. Later a good friend taught me to enjoy it.

I lost a friend to suicide a few years ago. That hurts pretty bad. The sudden shock makes the pain go deeper.

You have friends and family here, even if we can't offer the physical pat on the back you need right now. You hurt, and that's okay. Just know that there are many who understand and sympathise, and we will keep you in our prayers.

I am reminded of the poem by (I think) Edna St. Vincent Millay:

The bustle in a house
The morning after death
Is solemnest of industries
Enacted on the earth.

The sweeping up the heart
And putting away the love
We shall not want to use again
Until eternity.

Don't know if that is all correct, or not. Somebody may want to provide a correct rendition, but you get the idea.

My stepdad never rode in the truck with me, although we had opportunity. Somehow, we were always in too much of a hurry, or it was too hot, or too cold, or......

He drove a lumber truck flatbed sort of truck, a GMC of about 1946 vintage in the late '40's and early '50's about the time I was just getting old enough to not want to ride in a truck like that (here I begin kicking myself). Now I would gladly have ridden in a NEW truck, but the lumber company didn't have a NEW truck.

So I only remember one time, as a 4 or 5 year old, when he lifted me up into the driver's seat, told me to crawl over to the passenger seat, whereupon I rode with him from the main yard to the storage yard out back.

He never rode in my truck--he should have asked to take a ride, but more importantly, I should have suggested and insisted that we go for a ride. Hell's fire, I know, beyond a doubt, that after about a mile down the road, I could have pulled over, told him to get out and go around and he would have.

Would have enjoyed drivin' an old stovebolt again. I know he would have enjoyed it.

Moral: Don't be puttin' off 'til tomorrow what's best done today.

What was I thinking of!?!

Drivin' down a 2 lane country road in a stovebolt.....cowboy, it don't get no better than this!

Brian,
our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. It is good that you are receiving help.

A friend of mine was widowed suddenly as a young Mother of two. As part of the healing process, she found the following book very helpful:

"When Bad Things Happen to Good People"

All the best,
Fred

I'm very sad to hear of your fathers death. My
father died unexpectedly over 20 years ago and
even today I still have times when I break down.
It took me over a month to even go out in public
after he died. Only time will make it a little
easier each day. My best wishes to you and
your family for a speedy recovery.

Brian,
You're well aware that everyone goes through the tough times. Reading your story reminded me that I'm not important. My children are. I work evenings and when I get home, the kids are already in bed and asleep. Sometimes when I get home I go in their rooms, pick them up, hold them and tell them I love them. This is definetly one of those nights.
GOD bless you and your family. I will be praying for you.

Email me with your phone number. I will call as soon as possible(looking like Sunday or LATE in the evening).
You mean a lot to people like me in this world(not as much as your kids, but a lot just the same).
Explanations can be easy or tough, understanding is the key.

Brian,

Think back to the good times you had and I'm sure that you'll feel warm inside.

Thinking of you here in Oshawa...and hoping you can get over and get on soon.

I want to thank everyone for the phone calls the emails and PM. I am working through this. I am doing pretty well. I have learned more (not all) about why my Dad choose the path that he did. I also know that there was nothing that anyone could have done to alter that path that He choose. This dosen't mean I have to like his choice but I do better understand it. Time is going to be my friend and it will heal all the wounds. I have learned alot about myself during this trying time. I will be a better person because of this. Thanks again for all of your concerns, thoughts and prayers. They are all appreciated.

Sincerely

Brian Moore
