| | | | Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 60 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 60 | I ran into a friend of mine who told me he had a 256 out of a '64 half ton he would be willing to sell me its a new rebuild for 500 bucks he must have been mistaken when he said 256 because I have never heard of that before. The only thing that I can think of is he meant 250, 260, or 265. Either way what mods need to be done to fit this engine in My '53 half ton????? It also comes with a four speed transmission. You can't beat the price and I want to try it out. Thanks in advance for you're help, Jess

Best way to get a positive id is to get the casting number off the passenger side of the block. the 230/250 series it was located on the lower portion, about halfway back. Earlier engines had the casting number in the area of the starter. Go to www.inliners.org to the casting # section to look it up. If it is the later series engine, it won't fit your truck without different motor mounts. The later engines were smaller than the old 235/261.
