1954 235, in a 1948 1/2 ton pickup. As viewed from the bottom, two of the front motor mount bolts are loose in the cross member. Is there sufficent room to raise the front of the engine
to remove the complete mount? or do I need to loosen transmission mounts or other componets?
Where would I find a replacement mount?
Looks like two steel plates and rubber sandwiched in between.

Chevy Duty has the mounts. Part # 79-005. You have to loosen the rear mounts on the bellhousing and transmission (If you have a tranny mount) then jack up the front and you should be able to get at them. You have to get it up a couple of inches so you may have to take the other bolts out entirely.

Thank you for the how to information and a source for the mount.
Are there other rubber mounts at the rear of the transmission I should consider replacing also?
The cross member supporting the rear of the transmission is removable from what I can see.

Chevy Duty also has those mounts. You need to figure out if you have your ORIGINAL bellhousing or the bellhousing from the 54 engine. They are different. Part # for the 47-53 are 79-105. Part # for 54-84 is 79-111. Go to the Chevy Duty website and look at the photos of the 2 mounts and simply get the ones that look like yours. Then you will know what bellhousing you have. Good luck. Also LMC has a great catalog with exploded views of most of your truck parts. It's a great reference.

I just had a timing cover leak which meant I had to remove the balancer. I had to jack the front of the engine for that, and I raised it up arount 3" without loosening anything but the front mount. I would think that you could get the engine high enough to replace the mount without all of the extra work or removing the rear mounts, etc.

Thanks again to both of you for the advise, I will take a look at the LMC catalog I have for possible rear mount choices. I will also look at the part number photos to see what variables I have when it comes to the bell housing.
Hmm. looks like dropping the upper and lower Rad. hoses, I might get enough head room to slip the front in.

I would recommend that you do loosen the rear mounts (as per the manual) and when you are putting the front mount assembly in place you might consider doing what I did by applying some gasket goo around the hole where the bolt from the motor goes thru the cover plate. This will keep oil from a leaking timing cover from weeping thru. There is a new motor mount available which is not rubber (I forget but think it is some type of poly) and it won't rot ever. If you contact me I can find the address.
